I found this law a while ago and it's driving me crazy trying to remember its name. I tried google but to no avail.
It basically means that experts consider themselves to know little on their subject because they understand the subject's vastness, but novices consider themselves experts because they think they don't fully grasp the subject's complexity. (I think Aristotle may have been Aristotle that came up with it.) Anybody know this one? I don't feel like rummaging through several million wikipedia pages. |

I know this quote from Bertrand Russell but I haven't heard of a "law" (like Murphy's Law) on it
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts. -Bertrand Russell |

Lake Wobegon effect, a town where "all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average". I love listening to A Prairie Home Companion!
![]() For those that have no idea what I am talking about, it's similar to the Dunning-Kruger effect that georgehu2007 rightly pinpointed BetterDeadThanRed towards. The idea that as humans we tend to overestimate our skills and achievements compared to others. But really, it was just an excuse for me to go, Lake Wobegon - Woo! |
