The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

So, I got Napoleon total war, it does seem to be what Empire Total War should have been tbh, its a good game, and performs way better than ETW

Can't wait to see what kind of mods come out for it

well, after a little more time

new musket effects = crap, ETW ones were better
militia look stupid again
again light infantry are magically unable to use square
wtf...only the first row of a line company can fire and I cant find ANY reasearch to change this? (exception is light inf...which shoot through eachother...)
Garrisons are still crap, but at least they actually replace dead men at the windows, new garrisonable buildings are nice, but still so few.
sea combat is nice, the new effect works there, though for some reason trade ships are much much stronger, though boarding is way better now.
the historical setup isn't that good, the French fleet is far superior to teh British fleet in 1805, and 3 enemy fleets, 1 from france, 1 from batavia (though that one isn't so good) and the spanish fleet featuring teh Santisima Trinidad are all very close together, making destroying them nearly impossible without constant manouvre.


Its a good game, and I'd love it if I hadn't experience some of the good things in ETW that have been removed.

At least this version is playable in a much wide selection of computers.

well, I'm gonna have another go with NTW so that I can see what the modding scene is like

Europe in Conflict is a mod for Napoleon Total War that brings a new element of realism to the game. Players can now successfully use Napoleonic tactics on the battlefield to achieve their aims. Many new features have been introduced in v1.0, including a radical campaign overhaul. * Column formation is now an effective tool of war (see feature below)

* "Realistic campaigning" - a new feature unique to Europe in Conflict, see below for more info.
* Sieges have been completely overhauled - they are now (whisper it!) fun to play! (see feature below)
* We have introduced the most comprehensive AOR system to date to N:TW - with over 100 new, region-specific units each region now has a whole new level of value.
* We have created the most extensive tech tree to date, with 50 new, faction-specific technologies.
* We are the first mod for N:TW to introduce a new building chain - see the feature below for all the details. For the first time in N:TW, players can now decide exactly how much the want to invest in their troops.
* A fully working installer has been added - also included is a wide selection of minimods.
* A complete naval overhaul has been added.
* Players now have the choice of whether to ship troops from home, or recruit more expensive local units.

ok, I've given EiC a go. Its really really really good, it improves everthing expect infantry.

its not EiC's fault, CA really screwed up infantry after ETW, ETW infantry with everything else NTW would have been fantastic. I just cannot accept seeing huge groups of men firing musketballs through their friends to attack enemies, I can't. Infantry feel like robots, not men.

I'm gonna redownload ETW now and see if any of the new mods for that improve things to the degree I want

but I think I'm gonna leave NTW forever now, looks like the mods can't change the game enough to fix its problems.

I've played some turns as France in the grand campaign. Initially the British navy is stronger therefore I sent my fleet next to the Spanish one to stand a chance. Together we outnumber the British and they haven't dared attack. Historically the British won through superior crews and tactics, not numbers. I assume the British navy start with experience advantage?

It really annoys me that infantry can only fire from the front rank, but hey, after ETW I have no expectations when it comes to CA. Vanilla NTW beats vanilla ETW. ETW darthmod however beats all and is the way those games should have been in the first place. If you have the computer for it - try it! Additional units mod is also quite nice.

nope, though I am playing the campaign on very hard so maybe thats something to do with it.

If only ETW had the performance and diplomatic options of NTW...

I started playing Empire again.

I found my self playing Prussia on Darthmod Empire (DM) and Ottoman Realism 1.3.

I am having a lot of fun.Its my 200th Hour on Steam

Empire is the best turn based RTS game out there for me.

It's got real time strategy battles, that's what sets the total war series apart from other strategy games, it's a mixture of turn based and real time.
