And personaly i prefered it....
-The IG campaign is based on the Medieval Campaign. The IG ground battles are based on the Total War battle system with the same army setup and unit control, but IG lacks the depth of the TW system(Morale, for instance). How exactly do you think they should have done the sea battles? There is pretty much only one way to make realistic real-time naval warfare(And Land warfare for that matter), and that's the way it's done in TW(And IG, but again without the depth).

Im worried about the AI on the campaign map and in the battles. It sucked in Medival 2, so im gonna wait with a buy till I hear hear a lot of feedback.

Yay, got it working. Much better than IG imo

though, I do prefer the ship control system from IG, but the ETW has controllable speed. So its good still.

Infantry needs tweaking imo, more volley fire, max 4 ranks firing at a time with penalties for ranks beyond 2, more compact ranks

etc etc etc, gotta get some more playtime under my belt

but I will say that economic system is blooming complicated, but looking at it its extremely realistic.

You need to research Platoon firing drills for this.

I'm not that impressed just now with the game to be honest. I like the Trade and economy setup though. On my recent game as UK I rushed down to grab all the African Trade points and I am now the sole supplier of ivory to America, Europe and India. Cash is flowing in.

I don't see how some of the technologies can be justified to even be researched. Some only in the 2nd/3rd tier take 19 turns. Yes, that's about 1/10 of a long campaign...

I figured they'd extend it a bit unlike every other TW game and maybe change it to a 3 month turn cycle instead of 6 months a turn, which is only 198 turns in a full campaign -_-. I can't see any great 'history changing' being able to happen in this time frame. I'm guessing this will be modded fairly quickly though.

The Road to Independence bored the hell out of me also, TW scripted campaigns were never good.

My first impressions...

Great game, well thought out, but slightly overwhelming with the shear amount you can control from economy to diplomatics. Feels like CIV with the addition of a great RTS battle element.
However, this game is plagued with bugs atm, hopefully it will be patched, but online I keep getting desync errors and my campaign crashes upon load. Apart from that, awesome game!

the more gentlemen you have in each school/college the faster the technologies take to research. Something that could be 12 turns could take 4 if you have enough gentlemen in a university.

edit: btw i LOVE this TW age, its awesome and much better than all the other ones (played all but shogun:total war)

A few tips:

Put gentlemen in your schools to improve research speed.
Build several schools so you can research several technologies at once.
Upgrade your schools as soon as possible. Beware of the unhappiness penalty though(Unless you want a revolution).
Dragoons have a policing bonus(Gendarmes might as well, I didn't check) and as such are better at controlling the populating when garrisoned. Get them by researching Carbines.
Dragoons are not cavalry, they're mobile infantry. Ride where you want them, unmount, and engage.
Get a hold of foot artillery as soon as you can so you can move your artillery around.
You should always have at least 4 artillery units in 18+ unit armies. Canister shot decimates the enemy and garrisoned buildings can be destroyed quickly, taking the entire unit inside with them.

-I'll post some more if I can think of anything.


-Some issues I've noticed. Artillery is bugged and if you try to limber them while having canister shot selected they might start moving without limbering, periodically stopping to try, then moving again. They also seem to not like staying in formation when grouped with other units, with one unit moving left or right of it's designated spot. They also refuse to fire at times and if to close to each other may get stuck and not be able to reload/fire, requiring you to move them. And it's always annoying when, after unlimbering, the cannon is facing the wrong way...

-The campaign AI is still annoying. Russia keeps bugging me with offers of tech and money in return for the province of Estonia & Livonia every other turn. The AI should never give these offers to nations they are not at war with, it's just stupid and annoying. After rejecting an offer of 5 techs and 11 000 for the province the AI doesn't seem to understand that I won't accept an offer of 3 techs for the province and 30 000. In addition, I was besieging Munich, Bavaria with a 18 unit 1650 army when Poland-Lithuania(My ally) came along with 4 units and assaulted it. We defeated the defenders easily, but when the battle was over Pol-Lith got the province(This is a battle from my AAR, the only time I've reloaded a save because stupid stuff like that is just... stupid.). WTF? I had taken out the Bavarian army and besieged the town. I have a larger force on the battlefield and kill more enemy units. How does that equate to Pol-Lith getting the province? If I besiege the town I should get it regardless of anyone else stopping by.

-It's mostly small bugs like this, just keep them in the back of your mind so you won't get screwed because of them.


EDIT: BTW, I think I used two hours on the first Bavarian battle. Thankfully that wasn't the battle that I had to reload. Here's the replay. Check out my E:TW AAR.

Hm, have they improved the battle AI? So that there's no more standing back at extreme range and shooting half of them with the enemy just standing there?
