Power Supply Question

Here is my computer that I just ordered. In addition to what's on that list, I may have 1 7200RPM IDE hard drive from my old computer hooked up.

I currently own a 500w PSU and I assume that is good enough, but I was hoping for advice from those a bit more experienced. I have used a few calculators online and most say it will use around 340w of power at maximum load but I had 1 saying that it would use over 500w.

Re: Power Supply Question

Your 500W will be fine, but the question is..is it generic PSU or a good quality brand?
Personal example - I used 5 different 500W generic PSUs in my former pc in 1 year, they kept frying, in this pc which uses far more Ws, there is a Thermaltake 500W PSU for nearly 2 years there wasn't a single fault with it.

"Don't let it end like this. Tell'em I have said something."

solo, zzez is right. When it comes to PSUs, you really get what you pay for. It is something you should never skimp on. It is one of the hardest bugs to diagnose when something is wrong, and at worst it could fry your new computer. If you are using a no name or a cheap one, I would spend the $100 or so and get a good one from like Corsair. I made a post here a while back with an unofficial list of good PSUs.

Unofficial PSU Ranking List (What's the best PSU to buy?)

Your new setup looks really good man. I think you should have gone with different RAM though. That should be good stuff, but you could have gotten DDR800 speed for half that price and not noticed a single FPS difference in game, even if you overclock your CPU some. I bought DDR1066 when I built my last rig in OCT, thinking it would help, but after reading and learning a lot more about memory, turns out it wouldn't have. Can explain more, but I need to play some PR before bed.

Re: Power Supply Question

The power supply is an Antec Basiq 500. I am not sure if its a cheap product or not.

Here is a link to the power supply from Circuit City.
Here is the link to find it at NewEgg.
