It was a war we entered and never intended on winning. Truely a political slap on the face to those brave men who served. As MacArthur said, "There is no substitue for victory." Strict rules of engagement, a lack of bombing in the North, the support of china and russia, and fighting a war on the behalf of people who didn't want to fight for themselves were the main causes of faliure. Not to mention the war was run by Mcnamara and his "Whizz" kids who were more concerend with numbers than victory. You cannot hope to win a war when you tie the hands of your soldiers, then enemy is willing to die for thier cause, and you draft a bunch of people who don't want to be there. We are far better off with our all volunter Army now a days. Couple this with our ignorance in Guerrilla warfare, and our reluctance to the changes in warfare since WW2. We easily could have acheived victory if we had allowed soldiers to run the war and not politions. The reason this was not done was the US was afraid of provoking the Soviet Union and starting WW3. So as I said before, it was a war our Gov't wouldn't allow the troops on the ground, where the metal meets the meat, to win. A crying shame and something our country should never do again. Unforunately it has in Somilla, Beruit, and lets hope not in Iraq.

The only thing that can defeat the American Military is the American Media.
