So if the multiplayer part of the engine is crap (which it is), and there is no players for it, it pretty much dosnt matter how good the editor is (which it is, it is really awesome). The only thing worth making in crysis is single player games and portfolio pieces imho.
(tried it myself when I wanted to start a mod up. bought crysis. was amazed. started to mod. found out there was NO multiplayer market what so ever. bought UT3. love it. but my personal mod has been set on hold due to my involvement in Offworld - which might get ported to UE3 later on)

sorry to say it but making a crysis mod will be for a very narrow marked (even if the theme is VERY popular) and will probably be played by the dev team only.
I could be wrong, but I sure dont want to spend 0,5-2 years on finding out!

no.... BF2 has really, really good MP. epically for when it came out. It can in theory handle 128 players its just DICE/EA have locked down the .exe to stop ppl from doing it, you could how ever on the demo and it worked quite well.

Crysis in its wildest drams couldn't even think about getting upto 64ps without it lagging to crap, not to mention that MP disables 1/2 of the games key features to cut down on the net code etc.

Hi folks,

there defintitely is lot of potential in this engine.
And we already got a lot of content which we want to implement into CryEngine2.

You can even create your own multiplayer game with it and increase the playercount to 64+ for example.
The only problem would be the heavy required skills in programming for an own netcode or datasending management.
I think I´ve seen some network code already and other stuff like dynamically destructible terrain...

The physique system and moddability is just like a dream and it seems like Crytek have not used the whole potential of their engine yet.

A lot of systems are disabled and will maybe activated in the next Crysis2/CryEngine3... or by the community

BTW: I´m the current leader of Tiberian Genesis and new to these forums ^^
and I really want to know what you think about our project... in the good and bad way.

So please start criticizing our mod project too and not only the engine ^^.

I really want to get the opinion of a famous and finished mod project/community like yours and more members for our own team of course .

I don't know what all the Crysis hate is about. The game is fantastic and would be perfect for mods, albeit with fewer than the relatively monstrous 64 players BF2 allows. The C&C mod looks like it is going to be good. Too bad you did not go with the Red Alert stream though.

I love CNC: TS. I was messing around with mapping at one point, but some features really really frustrated me.

Is the SDK out for public use? I'll have to go through it if it is.

Yeah, I read all of requiem's blog postings. He focuses on low numbers and high poly counts but never mentioned any real MP problems the game has for modding.

The Multiplayer Experience. Only 12% of people asked were Very Satisfied or Satisfied with their online experiences. Wait, what? Let me make this clear for everyone reading, multiplayer is the key to a continuous revenue stream. This isn’t 1998 where you can expect to stay in the headlines with a strong singleplayer game (i.e. Thief: The Dark Project). You can make ANY excuse in the world, but nothing and I mean nothing will get you those lost potential customers back. You only have once chance at a first impression, and if you fail, it’ll take so much more work as publisher to get that same player to try the game out again. As a modder, you learn this the hard way. A recipe for destruction is blowing your marketing budget on a poorly examined plan. I say this with all confidence because a publisher that releases a title, waits till the hype fades, and then, only then, decides to get punkbusted in on the action has either rushed the release or lost their mind. If Crysis’s Multiplayer was a Children’s Drawing and Maddox was grading it, well you know the result (or should, click).
See if i can also find this topic i saw on TGN, maa cant find it but there was a real good post about the let downs of crysis by one of its official beta testers explaining about all the let downs on the MP side etc. He claimed the MP in its final version was un touched from its previous 5 or something betas before that, even thou the testers documented loads of bugs really well, the studio chose to ignore them and focus on the SP side etc.

Also take a look at this: Xfire - Crysis
Crysis ranks #45th on xfire's most played games, BF2 still ranks #5th after 3 years? The top Crysis was was #15th, its dropped 30 places? Its MP pop is constantly falling and by the time the mods are done, there will be a very small MP community of the game to appeal to, and look how hard it is for us to get players from BF2 playing any BF2 mod? Its going to take anything over a year to make anything good to release for Crysis and how much is crysis's pop going to fall by then?
