A horrible thing has happened to me.
Hard Drive, failure...
Recovery, impossible. Data - Gone 8 Months of work - Gone Self-Esteem - Plummeting Sanity Levels - Decreasing Back-Ups in existance - None Will to go on - Failing. Why me, now... Only 4 days before multiple projects for First Strike were going to be completed... Someone, comfort me... |

damn man, I kinda know how it feels thou not quite as bad for me
Try plugging your HDD into anouther system and trying to retrieve the data that way maybe? anyways hope you can find some way to get your stuff back, if not, best thing you can do is learn from it and always back your stuff up in multiple places / systems |

Open up your hard drive, yep thats right. Get a can of that compressed air stuff first, dont use deodorant or anything then get the right type of screw driver, can find them most hard drives use star screws thou some use other types. When in a really non dusty room, open it up, keep any dust away from it as possible, also have really clean hands etc and make sure you get rid of any static electricity on your hands etc too. once you have it open then have a look around, look that the reader is on the disk right etc and theres nothing odd going on in there. then give your HDD disck a quick spray with the compressed air, should clean it up if theres anything on it, thou if you are in a dusty room will spray air onto your HDD, last thing you want so must be real, real clean, you almost need a clean room but you can get away with a norma room thats just really clean for the most part. then after that put it back together and give it a try. you need to do this all as fast as possible too to reduce the chances of dust getting onto the disk etc but its worth a shot if your HDD is really 100% fecked IMO. | |

Some guy on another forum- "I'm an athiest so i don't believe in the apocalypse. The rest of you are ****ed."
To deny all the qualities of a being is equivalent to denying the being itself. A being without qualities is one which cannot become an object of the mind, and such a being is virtually non-existent. European Combat Battalion <--Check out my clan! |

Download ubuntu, install to a CD. When booting, set the boot device to CD/or DVD drive, this will load ubuntu from the CD. Get another CD, or get a backup HD, and save the data onto it. All you have to do is open up the HDD icon which will be your C drive... I had to do this once after Vista crashed and burned for a cousin of mine. I could get you a link better explaining it, because its been a while and I cannot explain to you in detail what to do, but it is actually very simple.

You could use a program like "DIY Datarecovery" or the likes. Then depending on the reasons your disk failed you can recover a portion or the totality of the hard drive (its a lengthy process)
I was able to recover 2/3 of my hard drive like this ( but sadly lost all my personal photography |
