Not entirely sure about that, I am sure that they got the same speeds as the rest of the world. Just depends on the provider.
well yeah, you are kind of right. You CAN (in theory) get the same kind of speeds, even a lot faster, but fast connections are more common in asia. Iirc 1Gbps connections aren't that rare over there. Don't know what type of connections they use, but fiber optics can reach speeds that.. well.. none of us can even dream of. (just for the record, atm the worlds fastest internet is 40Gbps)

As for the news.. well yeah. Sure it's possible, but will we (the consumers) get it in the next 10 years? I doubt it. Like I said, even now it wouldn't require THAT much money and we could have a thousand times faster connections.

They never said it wasn't going to be given out and sold for personal users. They just said that for now it was designed for a scientific purposes, and will be used for science. They just said that it would be unlikely that it would be sold to regular citizens. Which means there is still a chance it can, and this type of thing is state of the art. Whoever designed it will most likely sell it as this would completly own every single internet provider in the world. He would make a killing with this. Anybody who wouldn't sell it would be really crazy.

I got this information from a Canadian Content Website called CKA. I don't think I got it from where you got it from.

I hope firewall technology gets better to cope with the additional bandwidth the hackers have to hammer government/military/corporate/home networks with.

As much as greater bandwidth is useful for a family unit where multiple things require the net at once, like streaming HDTV, gaming, communication, etc. There comes a point where the increased bandwidth is only going to make it easy for hackers to do damage.

The virtual world becomes more capable of causing economic destruction than the physical world! Physically bombing a financial institution into collapse becomes a lot simpler and cheaper over the net with extremely highly bandwidth capability.
