General feelings for realistic gaming.
GameFAQs - Poll of the Day
That is todays poll of the day over at GameFaqs.com(my favorite game website) and i think its hard proof that we are always going to be screwed in the long wrong run. And it sucks. Thoughts? |

I don't think that's a surprise at all. It has always been that way. I believe the great majority of gamers play games for pure casual entertainment.
And we're not screwed. We're having realism games as long as there are people willing to play them, and if not games then we'll have mods like PR itself. The point is that realism games really require a large amount of knowledge about basic tactics that are used IRL and are always more demanding in many ways. Therefore what we play is way more than a simple game, it's a simulation. We like it, but most people don't, they don't want to think or want to be under stress in a game. Beyond that, realism games are always more complicated and complex. |

well.. I'm pretty sure this didn't come as a surprise for anyone, we all knew that realistic gaming is only for the small minority.
It's kind of sad though.. I can't find good games anymore since pretty much all new games are like hollywood action movies. It's a shame that I have to play the same games year after year only because the majority wants überfast action with lots of bullets and explosions. ohh and milobr, actually ...mm about 10 years ago realistic gaming was pretty popular. For example ghost recon and rainbow 6 rogue spear were very popular and won multiple awards etc. |

The problem is people don't equate realism with fun, which is stupid. Yea it's harder but that does not mean it isn't fun. Esp with todays games, they are much easier than in the past, and the games keep getting shorter (COD4 way too short even on veteran) which is stupid. It's not about making great games anymore for most companies. Like R6 Vegas 2 should have been part of 1, then the first game would have been way better, but no you have to drop the full price for a second and shorter game that was a continuation of the first.
Shit even back in the day, most nintendo games were hard as shit and took a long time to beat, yet as the games and systems got more powerful, it kept getting dumbed down more and more and here we are today, the age of disposable 60 dollar games that have less than 20hrs of game play. |

Im not saying anyone should be surprised but i thought you guys would be interested in seeing some hard, cold numbers.
I find that most people i talk about playing PR/realistic games love the idea but the only reason they dont play them, i believe, is that its so much easier to just play a simple game with lots of explosions. Which is what ScarFace was saying. |

I'm not all that surprised at the numbers as scarface said most people don't equate realism to fun. I feel that most games now a day are focusing on the graphics which is retarded because graphics don't mean it's going to be fun, heck 8-bit Mario in all it's bad graphics is probably more fun than a lot of games now a day. I do enjoy some unrealistic run and gun though.

Well I'm not surprised at all. To be honest, I don't think they should have even put that middle option in there. Of course everyone's gonna say "I enjoy playing games that are fun". I mean, I love realism, in FPS games, but I like other genres too, and some types of games just can't be realistic. Have you ever seen a successful realism based RPG (maybe the sims)?

Depends on your motivations and character. To me realistic simulation is fun. To others its all rules and self control. Clearly not something a lot of people like in this day and age.

real reason for all realistic games: So bullets actualy hit people and kill people. not vanilla with their 30 rounds in to a guys head while he 360 headshots you. It is stuff like that, that just made me want to play realism themed games. Games like ARMA how ever, are just boring, and there is not enough action. I played some coordinated scrims in arma those were very fun, but there is just not enough of those and it gets really boring.
