[Very Pic Heavy] Imperial War Museum, Duxford
On Tuesday I took a trip to the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. I go every year or so, usually with my dad. We get some male-bonding time in, exclaiming "god, isn't that beautiful!" while looking at lovingly restored greasy engines and such.
Took a heap of snaps of some very shiny planes and had a great time. Unfortunately I was very rushed (only around 4 and a half hours for somewhere you really need all day to visit) and was running low on battery power, so I didn't have the chance to really take enough shots to ensure that I got a good one of everything I wanted to. In particular I messed up many of the shots I took in bright conditions by forgetting to turn my camera's ISO off of the "high" setting In addition, it's impossible to get a good shot of many of the planes because you're restricted as to where you can go, and usually there's at least four other birds forcing their way into the shot. Anyways, for anyone who's interested, here's the link: Index of /images/dux08 Large res - 3072x2304 - and non-watermarked versions available on request if anyone sees their favourite bird in there. If anyone has any questions about any of the aircraft (wanting to know what they are etc) just post the image or post the ID number up below and I'll try and remember. EDIT: Also Mr.D's popped up some snaps of his: RAF Hendon: MrDestructo2/RAF Hendon Museum - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting PR Team's Bovington Visit last year: MrDestructo2/Bovington Armour Museum - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting The best ones from IWM Duxford (and probably the ones only really worth my taking Concorde testbed (#002) ![]() ![]() ![]() F8F Bearcat ![]() PBY Catalina ![]() B-17 "Sally B" ![]() Fairey Gannet ![]() Blackburn Buccaneer ![]() A-10 Thunderbolt II ![]() SR-72 Blackbird ![]() DeHavilland Rapide ![]() Anyways, enjoy. |

Good times, me and my dad used to head out there when we used to visit family in Cambridge. Used to love it as a little kid, watching the occasional displays as well.
You get any snaps of Corsairs? |

Might have got one somewhere in there, I'll take a look.
EDIT: Nope, sorry mate - there's one hanging in the USAF memorial hangar, but it was at a weird angle so I moved round to get a better view and got distracted by the SR-72... I love that thing |

I remember once I went there when I was younger and almost knocked myself unconscious after hitting my head on a Flying Fortress

Yeah that bloody thing is still there, lurking menacingly. Almost took me out a couple of times. The Ju-52 does the same thing, curse it - although they have wrapped foam piping around the trailing edges of its wings lol.

Lol safety first, was probably too small to have to deal with that.
Damn, Corsairs are the schmexiest planes ever to fly, part from maybe the Typhoon but Duxford ain't gonna have one of them for a few years yet... Just looking at those pics I remember going into the Concorde and realising just how ridiculously small it is. Brilliant machine though. |

Schexiest? How can you say that when you could have Sally B's nose art as your desktop?!
Probably NSFW (hence not posting it directly but linking). Not great quality at full-size but looks fine when scaled down a little to 1024*768 or similar. http://www.christies.org.uk/images/dux08/sallyb.jpg |

Nice. Used to go to warmusea myself too, when I was junger.
And the F8F Bearcat, reminds me of the German Focke Wulf airplane for some reason. |
