Consoles getting all the love?

A couple of games have caught my eye lately,

Battlefield Bad Company, Halo, Halo Wars, and a few others. Only to find that they are going to be console only. Tom Clancy - End War is one of several titles being "designed from the ground up for consoles" Also, COD4 is now releasing map packs for consoles, yet the PC is left without any lovin'.

Is this simply due to the transition to vista and dx10? Is it far more profitable to make console only games? (pc market too small to warrant the extra investment?)

Development costs. With PCs you game has to work with any number of combinations of graphics cards, RAM, processors, mother boards, etc, etc. with Consoles its just one. As such, development costs are lower as less time is spent hitting the square peg with a large hammer until it fits in the round hole.

Clearly a communist plot. Lets bomb Cuba.

In addition to Cuba bombing, end war looks rubbish (about as far away as you can get from the Tom Clancy games I loved back in the day, if you ask me. I mean seriously, hand held miniguns. WTF? If you want a final world war RTS with pretty graphics there is one, and only one option, WIC).

As for the CoD 4 Map Pack, there'll be more commuinity maps for the PC version than console gamers can dream of.

TBH, i agree with your points (especially WiC!) I just want to try it since all the game reviewers are agog over its voice recog software- if it lives up to expectations it could potentially augment future gaming.

The consoles have one very big disadvantage... community mods

like PR and other community things. With consoles you only have the pure game and maybe some expansions packs but thats basically it.
