Exclamation New MSN virus?

Anyone recently got a message along the lines of:

Quote:
tell me is this really you ? [--image link--]
-----

Had it from a couple of different people, the message being almost the exact same. It always prompts a download (DOS format). Tried whois and got no results.

Yeah spreads like wild fire as well. If you do run it it auto sends itself to other people in your contacts. Nice and easy to get rid of though...

Hey, I removed the link, just in case. I was gonna put the red warning over it because I almost clicked it and THEN read the red text under it.

No, I havent gotten that. Through MSN messenger? or Email?

Confused on what you meant by MSN virus.

Basically, you will get the message I posted, followed by a link containing your email address. It will prompt you to download a program. Downloading it is fine, opening it is bad. Looking through it now with Virtual Machine.

I've had to reformat peoples machines, removing partitions/etc after they got a similar link. They usually come from websites offering to "check which of your friends have blocked you" and asking for your username and password for msn (really dumb idea to put them in) or downloading software to your pc (seen or unseen!)

It's not an "msn virus" but a virus that is written to spread itself by sending messages to your msn contact list when messenger is on (and various messengers at that.)

Education is the key here. I try to explain to people the analogy of the wrapped present. Asking them if someone offers them a present, are they going to immediately open it? Or are they going to think about where it came from, why you got it, then knowing how to scan the file with your anti virus program even if you think it is safe. Normal people have such great difficult and usually complain "but why would they attack me? I'm only a simple home user!"

Ahhh, I thought the link itself you posted would lead to it Was just trying to be safe rather than have a ton of empty servers from everyone PC being kaput
