Tom Clancy MMO - How far we have fallen...

I read the article last night. Why in the world would they release this news without even knowing what franchise they are planning to f'up? I didnt mind when Ubi bought the Tom Clancy rights, they have worked alongside eachother for a long time, and as such, will probally have a easier time making the franchise prosper than some other company.

It promises to build a tactical shooter that follows in the footsteps of the original Ghost Recon. The mantra for the studio is, "Do not build your community around a game.... Build your game around a community"

They are, unfortunately, secretive about how the game is coming along due to not being picked up by a publisher yet. Apparently Codemasters was considering it but decided the game was too similar to OFP2 and did not want to put too many eggs in the tactical shooter basket. There are a few screenshots (renders?) in the member's only forum though, along with some newsletters.

I look forward to it, I think everyone who enjoyed the old Tom Clancy games back in the day hope for an updated replacement.

Project Reality is pimped in their forums every once in a while so I know there are more crossover fans than me, although I have not seen any mention of the game here.

Why does everyone assume its going to be an MMO like WoW. I think they are going to make a more of an MMOFPS where you can have large amounts of players all on one battlefield. Thats what im hoping at least.

The Tom Clancy series pretty much stopped being good at R6: Raven Shield, and the original Ghost Recon, IMO. Planetside did the MMO thing very well. Ah good memories.

It seems that all your respect for Tom Clansey and his franchise turns into fear of it all being ruined. Id rather be slightly scared of the same, while i trust Tom and the crew to succeed in whatever they work on. I loved all his previous games, im only in slight doubt that i wont do the same with this

Because most people have a limited understanding of MMOs.
There are enough non-WOW MMOs coming out to prove that this could turn out well.

Fallen Earth (Post Apocalyptic MMO)
Exanimus (Zombies Survival MMO)
Blue Mars (Virtual world on steroids)
The Agency (MMOFPS based on tongue in cheek secret agents)
Age of Conan (with GORE!!!!)

WOW was last gen, the new generation is coming soon, and then all middle aged accountants will demand game studios copy that design.
Trust me ... Warhammer Online will fail because of its WOWness up against this competition. Budget means very little on the interwebs.

Ground Branch looks sex and i have total confidence in this game if it ever is released.

The latest Rainbow Sixes and Ghost Recons were not realistic but hey can you imagine an MMO with tanks, M16A4s, jets and all that other good stuff?!?!?!?!? I dont know about you guys but im going to have to play that game, i will just get my sim fix else were(ARMA 2 or OFP 2).
