The 9800 would be somewhere below the 6600 near the bottom m8.

As a follow up, I got an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT and there didn't seem to be much od a difference. I got maybe a few frames better, but I still run on medium-low settings and it wasn't worth the money for the card and the new power supply. I think I might take it back. I'm just suprised the difference is so little. Given I don't know much about computers, is this normal? This thing was $230 at Best Buy and on sale for $160, and here there are some 8800's for the same original price.

What's the rest of your setup like, and what settings are you running? Probably processor or ram is limiting things. That doesn't mean you can't shove some settings up with a new graphics card though - you just have to know which ones.

So you actually managed to run it ?

I spent one night just installing f'king drivers...

*ignore, didn't see the previous post*
About the price - which version is it?

The DDR3 or DDR4 memory. And how much video memory does it have ?

*EDIT*
The DDR3 512MB version can be bought for 130$

I got my DD3 with 256 Megs for 110$.

And BTW, the FPS difference between DDR3 and DDR4 is almost nonexistent. See for yourself.

Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.

The installers were fine from the start, I used the ones on the disc. I got it for $160 at Best Buy (wanted to use my damn $75 gift card on it)

Here's the exact one I got:
VisionTek - ATI RADEON HD2600 XT Edition Graphics Card - B226XT512AGP

At any rate, there was barely any performance gain over an old 9800 Pro 128mb. In PR my FPS ranges from the 20's to 50's depending on what I'm looking at (low-medium settings 1280x960). When playing First Strike Mod in space my FPS drops to like 15 at low-medium settings (1280x960).

What about other games ?

Crysis demo for example.

This low FPS, does it happen always or only if you move around ?

I can run PR decently at medium-low, but at certain times when I look at things it will drop to the 20's, whether I'm moving or not. In First Strike I just lag horribly in space maps if theres anymore than 3 people playing (10-15fps). Note: I play on roughly the same settings as the 9800 Pro and the performance seems about the same.

The guys at the FS forums said that Space Maps should run just as smoothly as on land, if not better.

@Crysis:
I have more or less the same components as you do (2600XT DDR3 256MB, Athlon XP 2600+, 1 GB 400MHz RAM) and I can run it on medium details with some things on low - namely physics (slow CPU) and shadows (performance eater).

What you might want to do if you didn't already is to reinstall Windows (drivers junk).
My FPS increased by 100% after it.
