Its about half a year old, that rendered video. Codemasters are not making it more mainstreem, it may seem like that but then again BIS did not advertise ArmA, probably owning to the fact they knew it was a budget builder while they make ArmA 2. Suma revealed to us just last week that no more features are going into ArmA2, suggestions on the BIS forums are useless, so I doubt ArmA2 will have new animations for the weapons.

Also Top Cat, COD4 is in a totaly different genre and has no comparison with the realistic tactical shooters in question.

BIS fanboy reporting for duty!

I'm expecting ArmA2 to be far better than OFP2. Bloody CODEMASTERS are making the game, and in my opinion they won't give half a shit about realism and sell it as realistic though it'll be more of a COD like game. It's easily seen in some of the details in the teaser, the shining, far too visible "here I am, look how pretty my equipment is!" character models that are so damn stuffed with phong shading that they glow in the dark, some projectiles flying in an... odd trajectory, and most of all, no real gameplay was shown yet, only some claims from the devs that don't sound that new at all.
ArmA2 on the other hand has been in development just as long as ArmA1 to my knowledge, has good, FUNCTIONAL graphics that may not look pretty, very high detailed and flashy, but when it comes to realism, ArmA2 has great graphics simply because of the lack of overused effects and stuff. Camouflage actually WORKS in ArmA1 already, and that camo on the US soldiers in the ArmA2 screenshots scream "you can't see me!" Not to mention the sheer amount of improvements that ArmA2 will have, the AI, the island (based off a place in the Czech Republic, where BIS is), and HOPEFULLY BIS have learned from their mistakes in ArmA1 and ArmA2 will be a far "cleaner" game with a better movement system. If they pull it off right, which it seems more likely than OFP2 to me, it'll be great.

ArmA had to be rushed into release and is now WAY better than the version most people who say it's crap have played. Get v1.09b and be amazed how much it has changed since the release.
Tell me one other game that has such a big world, bullet ballistics, "true" first person, a view distance of over 6 kilometers etc. Err... Operation Flashpoint? Guess who made that, BIS, not the codies. They only published it. The performance has been improved by over 200% by now since the patches according to BIS, and I can confirm that it's running very smooth for me with a huge amount of units in a detailed environment. As for the movement system, it never really bugged me. Most people say it's "robotic", while I think it actually feels better than most other ones. It's been improved with the patches too. People just have to adapt to it, walk more, run less. It does need improvements, but jeez, it is far from as bad as people say.
The only truly big problems ArmA has is the AI (horrible at CQB, yet on fields and stuff they're great) and the multiplayer, I'm sick and tired of berserk and evolution, ArmA needs a new set of maps.

Refinement NOT realism - smooth, clean animations, no very obvious rough edges. Evey thing that in instantly obvious looks impressive - COD4 was like this and sold by the hundreds of thousands.

and yes, im personally rooting for OFP2. no matter how much you spin it, the ARMA engine sucks and painting shit with gold paint only turns it into shiny shit.

ARMA may have all the correct ballistics and true 3d aiming but the individual soldiers simply dont act or behave like humans. even in the various arma 2 vids out there the AI is still lying prone in the middle of the road or not reacting when an enemy is firmly in their sights. im not saying OFP2 will be the god of all milsims but the fact that CM are going into this with a fresh face without using a nine year old engine does give them promise that they can deliver a game that represents modern warfare.

(ps: besides, what game other than PR actually has a decent representation of the modern PLA? i mean, ffs they actually have the Type 95 as the main infantry weapon!)

I think that what Confucius could have said after seeing first screenshots of ArmA 2.
And it's my opinion too.

AFAIR it's not exactly like that in reality, but those guys on Skira are some kind of elite.

This television has a poison on it's breath
This counter-culture of both wicked lies and death
It makes my eyes bleed every time I turn around
How will they all feel when I bring them to the ground?

Since they haven't been posted in this thread, here are both current in-game trailers.

Open World Modern Warfare Trailer HD

Welcome To Skira Trailer HD

It looks promising, I really think Codemasters are putting in a lot of effort forth into this game, they've already delayed it from back in 2008, which will total it about over 3 years of development time when released. That doesn't mean it's gonna be the best game ever, but they really are trying to make it a worth while title.
