OFP still rocks, and I doubt that OFP2 will get anywhere near to it, especially because it's being done for the Xbox 360 as well.

What was so great about OpFp? I tried it once and thought it was awful.
For a game released at 2001 it was ground breaking, ArmA was just a money machine for the creators and barely anything was new in it except the shiny graphics..the animation remained the same which was OFP's biggest problem.

Teaser here:

YouTube - Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising - Teaser

Nice Article here, especially the "possible large multiplay" part ???

Operation Flashpoint 2 E3 2005 Hands-On Impressions - PC News at GameSpot

Note from Spearhead: This article is from mid 2005 and thus it refers to the game which will be published as ArmA 2.

Maybe OPF2 will work, unlike ArmA, which functions much like an NES game where you have to tak out the cartridge and blow, then toggle the power repeatedly, and then hop it works...

ArmA used to work fine, now it gives me nothing but problems...

AA (Using the OFP 1 engine with tweaks), was produced by Codemasters and BIS, BIS are now working on AA2, and codemasters with an Internal Dev Studio team, are producing the "Original" OFP 2, I too was somewhat confused when I looked into this but it seems as though

Bohemia Interactive Studios where "dropped" by codemasters for AA 1, and are still in the progress of making OFP 2 - Dragon Rising.

Codemasters - Operation Flashpoint 2

Bohemia Interactive Studios, are now - without Codemasters producing AA 2

ARMA 2 - Bohemia Interactive

My money is on OFP 2 making a hit game here

Hard to do or not, I find it absolutely ridiculous that no one else seems to care that on ALL grenadier class weapons, the soldiers hand goes through the rifle[between the launcher and the barrel]

To me, its appalling that this hasn't even been fixed. Someone said it was class/animation related. Well, freakin' copy the rifleman class, same everything, except hold the rifle correctly....... I'm sorry I find this so repulsive but FIX IT.

That screenshot shows simply that the animation system is not changing, it seems we're staying with the "1 animation for all rifles" shit which is just sad for a game produced at 2008.

Exactly. It shows a certain lack of professionality[?] that I would expect from a gaming company in this day and age, regardless of how big or small the company. Something like that is an eyesore, and even though I can overlook it, that is no excuse to not fix it.

Especially when it looks like that in first person as well. [the whole sharing animations, right?] Also, if you look straight down in third person view, go to free look and turn to see your characters front, then walk backwards, his arms go out his back...

Not to mention the biggest gripe I have w/ ArmA is its a crappy engine that hogs the system for crappy AI and whatever else

/rant

I cant wait for OFP2 and ArmA 2, Ill wait and see before I chose one

Oh, c'mon. You guys are only saying this because ArmA pwns PR hard.

Anyway I liked ArmA a lot. I think I was the only one who was not expecting nothing revolutionary (maybe because I was following it from a long time?) and just OFP with better graphics.

Anyway I think Arma 2 will be a little better and few changes in the gameplay but a lot of fixes mostly for performance issues and maybe animations.

In the end those issues do not affect gameplay or immersion at all (for me at least). With the proper mods it's an awesome game (actually the best out there so far, but I'm a very hardcore OFP/realism games fan, and despite all the issues I think it's the best for combined-arms)

It's actually understandable that the game lacks polishment, the company was on dire straits and under a lot of pressure so the game was rushed.

As for OFP2, I don't know. I hope it's better, actually. But I suppose it won't be as large as ArmA or as realistic, maybe aiming for the mainstream? like BF2 was. I hope not though.
