Steps of becomming a Army/Navy/RAF(UK armed forces) Aviator?

I read the 'marine aviation' thread and was intrigued.
-Had a recent eye test and results came out as 20/20 (im still unsure about the optician's efficiency, because he said i had "slightly better than 20/20"...Not possible, right?).

About average fitness (get a few pints down me and im unstoppable!), but plan to hit the gyms after college(6th form).

I read something like you need 140UMS marks:
5 A-C GCSEs, maths english and science included.
140 UMS marks (not allot, IRRC?)
Didn't do as well as i'd like to have done in my recent AS exams (highly likely i was playing PR the whole time lolz), but plan on improving for A2.

Would not be fussed about the role in which I'd be flying, but preferably a lynx helicopter. Would rather not have to fly a combat role, as im not TOO hot on the idea of directly having to kill someone else.

Is there anything else one should consider when applying?
What would butter them up?

...mongol...

Well, I'm not exactly sure about any of the other armed forces but as for the United States Army I can help. You must go to basic, officer candidacy school, flight school, then you get an aircraft and are assigned. Of course there are smaller things you have to do but if youre serious about this you will quickly learn them. This is the basic course but you get the general idea.

That's my man

Definitely get better marks. Stop playing PR! Also, don't go to cadets or something like that. If I'd be you I would first graduate and then join the RAF University.

Make sure you go to a doctor and check your body for everything, don't want to waste time.
Also, Your application will be rejected if you have schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder or you are dependent on alcohol or drugs And yes, do fitness a lot, they will do a fitness test before you join! After that there is an annual fitness test. Also, get rid of those tattoos/piercings (if they are visible when wearing uniform).

Do get those 5 GCSEs/SCEs and 2 A-levels or 3 Highers or equivalent. GCSEs/SCEs at Grade C/3 minimum to include English language and maths.

About the 20/20 vision, yes it is possible. You just see better than the average human being. Those are some good genes.

I imagine covering them in butter would butter them up, but then again some people don't like it.

ITS A SIGN, ITS A SIGN!!!!

Today i was finishing up with my economics coursework, when i heard the heavy thomping of rotor blades. My school is relatively near a military air base or something, because I see chinooks fly by, with things underslung, daily. I even saw a Seaking (it may have just been a grey merlin lol) the other day.
But to day was different, very different.
I went to the window, because these womps were MUCH louder than normal.
I saw a red air ambulance, about 100ft up, circling the building and I know what that meant. It was gonna land.

I was out the door like a flash, and I came face to face with the the large white words, AIR AMBULANCE, sitting comfortably bewteen a pair of obsidian-black skids. The chopper flared and came to an almost perfect hover, like a seagull, riding warm currents for lift, surveying the scape below.
It managed to land in between a small sapling and the large building itself, an art in its own.

I watched it land, pre-flight check and take off and it was BADASS.
I was surprised to see the rotors flex so much on take off, it was worrying lol.

Well, got a C in Maths and two As in english, so that wont be a problem lol. Those A-levels have to be Cs right? And what exactly is a 'higher'? Higher education (AKA, university).

mongol i'm in the same boat as you mate, but with slightly different specifics,

i'm wanting to join the RAF also,

I left school at 16 and went on to train as a heating engineer the 4 year course ends this summer its an NVQ lv3, that added to me GCSE results will hopefully meet the standards required, i've got 20/20 vision and i'm kept sort of fit by my job i must admit i need to work alot on my stamina as lifting rad's and boilers wont make me run a marathon.

i rang up the information line for the RAF (found on their website, its open to 11pm during the week which is helpful if your job doesn't finish till late ) asking them what would be the best for me to do with regards to applying, what with my collage stuff ending in june/july and the give me what info i needed to know.

The RAF website is helpful mongol, with the phone line being even more so.

Gd luck with it all.
