Question Vista & Defragmentation

Like how many hours does it take to do a full defrag? I was started yesterday
at ±00:00 and now its 14:20 and its still going! Is this normal on vista? Because i cant remember it did take that long on XP..

Not at all.... I was using diskeeper, so I don't really know how long it was taking, but the manual defrag I did was only like an hour or two. With a lot of fragmentation I could see it taking that long I guess, but seems unlikely.

If you haven't defragged in ages, it will take a long time with that much stuff on the disk. Get into the habit of doing it often (or even set it up to do it automatically once a week), and it'll go quickly.

I don't know about Vista's defragmentator, but the one in XP is slow as hell.

Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.

BTW, you aren't using the windows defragger are you? Because that is about as crappy as it gets. I recommend diskeeper (google it) or a similar solution, the windows one is junk.

If a top-of-the-line defrag was bundled with Windows, Microsoft would be accused of monopolizing, it seems. Don't take my word for it, but this is probably why Windows has such terrible accessories in general, as well as an abysmal unzipping tool.
