Default Your personal Movie recommodations

Hi everyone,

Have you ever seen a movie and found it totally great, only to notice that none of your friends ever heard of it because it totally passed under the radar?
Well, I think that quite a few of us made that experience, and as such I would ask you to tell about movies you found great but that didn't got the publicity they actually deserved.
So then, I'll just start:

Equilibrium

Equilibrium plays in the near future, shortly after WW3. It was analyzed that emotions would be the cause of all problems, and as such a drug was developed to suppress all emotions. Everybody is forced to take it, but there is some resistance left that hoards items of emotional value and try to bring down the regime.
To battle them, the government has founded the grammaton clerics, who are trained in a special gun-fighting art, called Gun-Katas.
The main character John Preston is the highest ranking of those clerics, and very proficient at that.
All is "well" until John one day forgets to take his drug, and so experiences the world of emotions.

This movie not only passed under the radar, it also got strangely bad reviews. I can't understand how they could rate it that bad, my best guess that everyone just compared it with Matrix, whith which Equilibrium can't and isn't meant to compare.

The story is interesting(in my opinion ), the Actors are quite good, I especially liked that none of them were too famous.
The action was simply brilliant! Whoever developed Gun-Katas should get a prize. Choreographed Sword- and Fistfights are old, but choreographed Gun-Fights are just great.

So, if you have the opportunity: See it, and if just for the actions.

That's it for now, I'll post some more later.

Der Untergang.

Das Boot. Claustrophobic atmosphere and very exciting.

The Truman Show. This movie is a good example how it feels to be paranoid.

Donnie Darko. Great atmosphere, but the second time I watched this movie it wasn't as good as the first watch. And it's complicated. Anyway still great movie.

That's all I can think of now.

I have to agree with Equilibrium. AWESOME movie, yet pretty much no one has heard of it.

Other not so popular movies that I really liked.

also have to mention this movie, even though the rating is quite bad and it must be quite well known since it does have 20 000+ votes but I really did love this movie. Might be because I'm a time travel freak.

It is the soldier, not the priest, who protects freedom of religion; the soldier, not the journalist, who protects freedom of speech.

The Godfather (all three parts, though I prefer part 1)

Hot Shots 1 & 2

American Beauty

Izzat (Norwegian film - probably a bit hard to get your hands on, but well worth a watch)

Spy Game

None of my friends had watched them, but everybody liked them when we put them on.

Asking you to push his girlfriend down the stairs. Well, thats just not on.
Tell him to man up and if he wants an abortion done on the cheap he'll have to do it himself.

Equilibrium was good, but it didn't break any new ground that either 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or to a lesser extent Brave New World hasn't broken already. It was just a composite of those stories.
