International Sniper Competition
Did anyone watch the International Sniper Competition on Military Channel last night? It was awesome watching the best snipers from around the world in action. The most surprising thing to me was when Irish Defense Force won the .50 cal Competition, mainly because they dont even use .50 cal Sniper rifles. The Competition consisted of about 8 different events such as .50 cal, extraction cover, Sniping from a Blackhawk at ground targets etc.... I deffinetely recommend checking it out next time its on.

Wouldn't some of the best ones have better things to do, like, ehm, fight in Iraq or Afghanistan?

Uhhh...neat?
There are plenty of soldiers who are very accurate with a rifle, and for that matter LEOs/civilians, who are not snipers. Just because you can hit a target at range, even from a moving platform, doesn't make you a sniper. It's about being able to effectively use those skills in the field to accomplish your objectives. Shooting targets on a range, no matter how challenging, is not nearly as impressive as seeing real snipers practice their skills in a more appropriate and challenging environment. |
