Punk Buster woes

I need some help guys,

I had to reformat my PC a few weeks ago, bout the same time .7 came out, and since then I can't play PR (or BF2), I keep getting kicked from servers by Punkbuster for "loosing key packets".

I went to evenbalance and looked up the kick, they say something is preventing the punk buster service from working correctly, usually a firewall. I am running Zone Alarm and i put it into game mode, but I still get the kick. I am running Avast! anti virus.

Anyone expereince anything like this and come up with a fix? I appreaciate the help!

I have no idea what ZA "game mode" does, but I would start by checking the logs and see if its blocking anything punkbuster related.

Since PunkBuster made some major updates to its client, an increasing amount of people have had problems with it.
You may have noticed 2 new processes; PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe. These are part of PunkBuster, but can cause trouble like disconnects, lag and even computer crashes.

For the regular "cant play on PunkBuster server" problem, check this list.
  • If you have a firewall, make sure you have not blocked any of the 2 processes from accessing the internet.
  • Download PBSetup.exe. Add your game and update it. A detailed guide can be found here.
  • If the problems remains, download pbsvc.exe. Runt the test and see if it gives you any errors. The test can also trigger the firewall, enabling you to allow the services.
  • As a last resort, use pbsvc.exe to uninstall PunkBuster. Reboot and install it again. Then run PBSetup.exe again to make sure you are updated.

If you are having crashes/lock ups/BSODs;
  • Make sure all drivers are updated, including motherboard, SATA etc.
  • Do a search to see if your AntiVirus/Firewall/AntiSpyware has any known problems with PunkBuster.
  • If you are running ATI Tool, turn it off before playing a game that uses PunkBuster.

If you are using Teamspek Overlay and getting kicked;

Yeah, if you are using TeamSpeak Overlay, you have tu run it with "Alternative Direct X Method" to avoid getting kicked. You have to activate the checkbox on "OPTIONS/DEBUG".
