Anyone from the US reenlisted lately?

I am curious how many people here might have reenlisted lately back into the US military?

I have been trying for quite some time to get back in, but it seems my recruiter is more interested in the new soldiers than the vets. If anyone has reupped lately, I'd be interested in hearing about the timeframe it took as well as any BS you had to deal with along the way.

Nope but I'm swearing in on the 26th. I don't know why it would be hard to reenlist because they are so anxious to get as many people in as possible.

My thoughts are the same as well. In modern terms, I guess you could consider me "old-school" Army. I first enslited in early '96, and back then things were a lot different. The soldiers I was serving with were the soldiers who enlisted for the right reasons.

When I was a Training NCO at an OSUT unit in early '99, I saw the Army change drastically. Soldiers were now enlisting for bonus money to pay back college loans, enlisting as an option to avoid jail terms, etc. We saw the Army adding in stress cards, and mommies and daddies complaining to Congress that their son or daughter was being yelled at too much in BCT. So no more abusive or foul language, no physical contact, etc. The military was largely starting to send "wimps and gimps" out into field units. I can't remember how many little punks I had to graduate simply because they passed the APFT, when it was obvious they didn't belong in the military.

I have been out for several years now, and have lost some of my physical conditioning level. But I am still fit enough to head out with an ARNG unit at times for a little fun, I am still active in martial arts and outdoor recreation, and I still weigh about the same. I have still retained about 98% of my training, and can recite "How to evaluate a casualty" in my sleep.

But for what ever reason, the military has been reluctant to send me to MEPS just to take a physical. The recruiter keeps saying he'll contact me when my paperwork has been pushed up, but it seems I'm the only one making calls. Unlike many enlisting right now, I have clearly stated I have no problems being deployed. I keep getting the feeling that they get a bigger bonus or some crap for enlisting new kids than they do reenlisting the vets who have a better understanding of what a true soldier stands for.

Not that I have anything against the new generation of soldiers, but I do feel that myself and other vets are getting left behind in favor of this new "Army of One".

What MOS are you looking to obtain whenever you reenlist? That might be the problem. I know my army recruiter was trying to push me towards all the jobs that nobody wanted to do. He kept throwing all these bonuses and rewards at me trying to get me to become a chaplain assistant or a public broadcaster. When I said I wasn't interested in any of those he kinda started to shift more attention to other recruits. Thats when I decided to go national guard. When I called for him to send all my paperwork to OU he said he had lost it all and his comp was in the fritz lol.

Really Big Breast Should Fill Both Hands

Responsiveness
Bleed
Breathing
Shock
Fracture
Burn
Head Injury
Call for medic (although lets face it that's really the first step)

Honestly I have no idea. Never had to reenlist though I know they do prefer new soldiers over vets because of training and length of possible service. What was your MOS and what you are trying to enlist for? And where is a big one too now, try to find a recruiter station where they aren't getting a lot of people and go there.

Another big reason is the recruiters know they can't screw vets out of sigh up bennies like guaranteed duty station, unit assignment, airborne school (Bastards), etc.

I enlisted into the ARNG as 11B, and fell in love with it. At the end of '97 I decided to go AD, but my recruiter was a lying POS and I ended up as 13B. At the time I left, 13B was my primary MOS. After my leave I continued serving at times as advisor for infantry-based work though.

I am looking to go back in as 11B, as that was the job I loved most. I am unable to reup back on AD at this time due to starting a new family, so the ARNG is my best choice. I am not comfortable joining a different branch, Army is the only place for me.

A couple of years ago I tried going back in AD, but the recruiters always wanted me to come back as 13B. And each one of them got the finger.

The recruiter I have now was talking about getting me back in as a 13F with some bonus, but I told him I would prefer 11B instead. I told him I wasn't going to completely shut down the 13F option, as a bonus does sound tempting right now. And at least a 13F gets to see the impact, no more lanyard pulling.

That is what bothers me the most. I would have guessed that anyone asking for Infantry would have been grabbed right away. I score quite high on the ASVAB, but I don't want some lame computer job or intel crap. If I wanted that I'd do it as a civvie or join the NSA. Infantry is in my blood, it's where I belong.

My town isn't that big, our enlistment numbers are fairly low I would say. That means the recruiters shouldn't be too busy. I have told them outright that getting back in is what's important to me, not a bonus.

My dad just re-enlisted to the 5th special forces group. He left today to go to new mexico for a brief refresher and then hes out to Ft. Benning. So to my knowledge he had no problem getting back in.

Katie Couric, while interviewing a Royal Marine sniper, asked:
"What do you feel when you shoot an Arab Terrorist?"

The Marine shrugged and replied , "A slight recoil."

Could be due to which unit he reenlisted into, and the fact he is going back to AD instead of the NG. But would you mind asking him how long it took from initial recruiter meeting to swear-in?

God I miss Benning.

For some god unknownly reason the army has a massive hardon right now for 13F's. Don't ask me why, none of us know. I'm a scout myself so we crosstrain all the useful 13f shit anyways and we really don't need them, but get them assigned anyways. Go figure.

Honestly though, our 13f's trained right along with us. Shoot houses, field ops, ranges, live fires, PT, etc. They were 19d's that had to be in the PSG humvee. Our 2 guys saw the same shit we did over there and fired at the same guys and lived in the same shite ass conditions. So long as you get a infantry/airborne unit (82nd/101st) you'll be the exact same as a 11b/19d doing the same shit except maybe once a week you'll do some classroom shit. What was your rank when you got out?

Lastly, worst case scenario, take a trip to benning, talk to the nearest recruiter. Guarantee they'll give you 11b.
