I feel like a pretty big idiot although I don't think there was anything I could do. I bought a new 8800GT to replace my old defected 7900GT and my processor is only an AMD Athlon X2 3800+.

A good, common sense article. Computers are complicated things, and companies toss around a lot of words to confuse you. Understanding what the specs of products mean for YOUR machine is very important.
