Pointless plane defense system

Do any of you else think this is pointless.

2 reasons for this.

1. When jets are flying in friendly airspace than how are terrorists some how going to get ground to air missles and take out a jet thats around 30 thousand feet in the air.

2. What if terrorists highjack a plane that has the system. That means they can use it to an advantage so jets wouldn't be able to take them down.

Blame bush for his idiotic ideas.

I have seen spooks and the terrorist just stand at the end of the runway and fire at the plane when it is at 100feet up!

How they get a man pad, know idea but if they can acquire them selves at whole aircraft (9/11), just like you suggested it is possible, then i am sure a man pad is quite "easily" acquirable!

I can't imaging soviet era MANPADs are much harder to get ahold of than RPG's and AK's. They would all likely have come from the same armoury anyway.

Terrorists aren't the only potential threats; there has been at least one incident (that I know of) where a passenger aircraft was targeted and shot down by a country's ground based SAMs accidentally. How effective it'd be against modern military spec weapons (I know that we 'use' Starstreak, which is laser guided rather than heat, so it wouldn't help much there...not like we have anyone to shoot it at anyway), tho I suppose the SA-7 is the main worry. I'm guessing it's that you meant,
Blackhawk since the SA-3 is a BFO missile and would be reasonably visible sat at the end of a runway

. The SA-7 only has (wiki man say) a ceiling of 2300m and a range of 4200m, but that's still gotta be a fair distance from most airports' approach paths.

Seems a reasonably sensible idea to me, as long as it works.

It wouldnt block planes trying to take it down, as its highly unlikely it would be useful and even then you still have guns.

Leftover Stingers from USSR War in Afghanitan and SA-3, SA7 are in plentiful supply. I live near an airport and planes fly plenty low over cities, from any rooftop of which could be a terrorist with SA7

I love the way that those proposals are a test. Next time y'all fly American Airlines, just think - you could have some puke from the Defense Department stood a couple of klicks away aiming a Grail or Stinger at you to see if the jamming equipment on your plane works okay

	1 Grab a SAW 2 Find the highest hill/building around a flag 3 Move there, stay there, Spot, call out, attack marker... SAW! 4 For god sake go from high ground to high ground! NOT bottom of a valley to open field to gully!
