New Computer Setup Questions

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ame=Core+2+Duo

Why is it so much cheaper than the E6600? Everything is the same it seems but the 6750 is faster, so I don't get why it would be cheaper.

E6600 - $234.99
E6750 - $189.99

I just bought a e6750.

There's a few suspected reasons why it's cheaper.

1. Intel are trying to push the xx50 series and the xx00's will be obslete.

2. xx50's are only compatible with Intel P935 and nVidia 680I Motherboards.

3. The xx50's have a lower multiplier and make them etter for enthusiast overclockers.

I'm no expert but I hope this helps.

Although, according to this, http://processorfinder.intel.com/Lis...Spec=&OrdCode=
the xx50's have G0 stepping which makes them able to work at a higher temp. (10.c more)

Thanks man. I'm certainly not an expert.

This is a setup I hope to get sometime soon. However, like I said, I don't know much about computers so if anyone could go over this and give me feedback I'd appreciate it.

Yea, I have the E6750 model. Before you buy it, make sure you have a compatible motherboard. I made the mistake of getting a mobo that had 1333/1066 support and you had to change to 1333 in the bios, but you couldn't get it to post to change it in the bios, so I had to go with a 680i board. IMO, go with a 680i board or one you absolutely know about to be safe before you waste your money.

The Gigabyte P35C-DS3R supports it, and is a pretty decent mobo. It will also handle DDR3 RAM if you want to go down that path at some point in the future.

The 6750 is a very nice chip, especially if you get the G0 stepping rather than the B. I bought one earlier this year, haven't regretted it in the slightest.

I run my E6750 on an ASUS P5K Deluxe+Wi-Fi its the cheaper option if you sick with the older DDR2 memory standard (the memory is what is expensive). The ASUS P5K3 Deluxe is the one that runs DDR3, but it was too rich for my blood.

I have the P5K motherboard as well and would tell you how nice it is except I had a bad BIOS flash couple of weeks ago, and had to RMA it. Is actually in the mail right now on the way back to me.

I since you haven't bought yet, you really should wait till mid Jan. when all of the mainstream new stuff is getting released by Intel (they are saying the CES in early Jan.). If you can't wait, that really is an amazing price on the CPU, and you could get that, a good motherboard, and memory for about $500.

Might want to consider the quad core though. I know it won't help too much with PR, but it does with Crysis, and will when BF3 comes out (and of course PR2 )

I have also found that with PR running, I can jump out and do anything else I want with the quad with no game slowdown. I regularly alt-tab while waiting to respawn to check my e-mail or check some of the forums I admin. 4 gigs (which you can get for about $120 after rebates now) and Vista 64 help too.

I am running PR in Vista too and I frequently get a lot of CTD and something that says "dll memory error." DO you know what this means or have you ever had this before? I think it maybe because of the new Nvidia beta drivers that released with Crysis or because my 2gigs are sometimes maxed out in PR.

I am running the same drivers. I also had that same problem till I read that it has to do with a memory bug, and if you set your Lighting setting back to Med., it stops. Worked for me, and I only crash now about every other week. It was like every 3 maps before.

Do youself a favor and spend $50 and get some more memory. Even if your only running Vista 32, you will get a bit more headroom. My memory usage is usually about 2.3 gigs while in PR. Everyone always said it running better with more than 2 gigs, and it actually does.

I can't belive how cheap top of the line memory is now. I paid $200 for my first 2gig kit of Corsair Dominator 1066 3 months ago, and a few weeks ago I bought another 2gigs for $114 after rebate. Top of the line shit
