Your game(s) of the year

2007 has been a relatively quiet year for gaming. That is, until August, when Bioshock came out. Then all hell broke loose, as every top game since ever was suddenly unleashed upon us unsuspecting gamers.

So, what's been your top games of the year?

For me, Orange Box by far. Particularly Team Fortress 2 and Portal. Both are just sublime, genius, and utterly astounding. Half-Life 2: Episode Two is brilliant too.

Call of Duty 4 is brilliant fun. Multiplayer is solid, and the campaign is a blast from start to finish. Loads of replayability and multiplayer is so, so addictive.

Assassin's Creed has just been... amazing. Some people say its crap, some people say its amazing. I'm definitely in the latter area. Its beautiful, and definitely one of the best looking games of the year. A jaw-dropping game, but sadly not much replayability.

Halo 3 was fun, but I seemed to forget about it fairly quickly. The campaign was brilliant, but multiplayer was forgetful (especially when compared to the genius and addictiveness of CoD4).

Bioshock was amazing. Another example (along with Assassin's Creed) of how important art direction is in games. Both AC and Bioshock utterly absorbed me into their worlds.

skate. has been a surprise hit for me. Great fun, so, so addictive, and truly a breath of fresh air into a genre which has been dominated by Mr. Hawk for too long.

and lets not forget ArmA: Armed Assault. Good ol' ArmA. It has its quirks, but its still a great game.

So, what are yours? Is Super Mario Galaxy as good as everyone says it is? Is Mass Effect cheesy as hell or damn good? Is Crysis as good as it looks?

Has this been a year for consoles? (most of the games I talked about above I bought on console, however half (or so) of them are available for both PC and Consoles).

Madness! This is the best game ever:

Also, Call of Duty 4 wins my vote for game of the year. Haven't played Mass Effect yet, but I hear it's really good, too.

World in Conflict was fun but a bit of a let down from what I expected. CoH:OF was a pleasant surprise.

for me:

1st: Mass Effect

2nd: Bioshock

3rd: Super Mario Galaxy

I'd say its pretty damn close between 1 and 2 though. Both are great games, but the fact that there isn't really anything in Bioshock that wasn't in system shock 2 means I have to give it Mass Effect. Mass Effect isn't perfect by any means, but it's pretty unique and the story and conversations are straight-up amazing.

Mario Galaxy is really up there on the flat out fun factor, and it has fantastic level design, but its a bit easy and short, at least to get to 60 stars (there are 120 in the game but you only need 60 to beat it. I'm at 80 something right now).

Others:
Orange Box is great, but i didn't really get into team fortress 2, and while portal kicks ass, its very very short. It also kind of depends whether you played Half-life2 and EP1 already, b/c thats a sizable portion of the game. EP2 was great but I'm not sure if its worth $30 by itself.

CoD4 is pretty damn fun too but singleplayer is still basically the same as the other CoD's, albeit much prettier and more intense. Mulitplayer lost its appeal to me after 20 hours or so. Then it was back to PR .

Skate kicks some serious ass actually. Great game that everyone thought was going to be garbage. The inevitable sequel could be game of the year material for sure.

Halo 3, fun enough campaign but still doesn't compare to the first game and I ended up trading it a few weeks after it came out (which i knew would happen). Multiplayer isn't my style at all. Same reason i didn't bother with UT3.....

ArmA, I think most of us can agree that while fun, is very flawed. Still worth playing though. Heres hoping for ArmA2.

The only thing I haven't played that might be on the list is Assassin's Creed and The Witcher (which i keep hearing really good things about). Eventually.

..and rhino you can't choose PR. It's not fair to the other games.....lol.

Oh, forgot about WiC! It would probably be 2nd on my list, and Half-life 2 Episode 2 is simply epic, so it along with Portal and TF2 would be my third pick.
