First Strike mod Community Game this Sunday (Dec. 2)!

Following the successful first Community Game, with a full turnout and lots of action and teamwork, the First Strike developers are hosting a second Community Game on Sunday December 2nd, on a 64 player server running all FS maps. The event will pit developers and testers against players, and will be a great opportunity for newcomers to try out the mod, and for veterans to experience the fun of what is predicted to be a packed server.

For those who don't know, First Strike is a Star Wars Total Conversion of Battlefield 2142. It currently features five maps, of which two take place in space, and two factions, the Alliance and the Empire. Future updates will add tanks, combined arms maps, and more features and depth overall.

[FONT=Century Gothic]An Imperial task force encounters a Rebel advance scout in the Battle of Taloraan, a deep space fleet battle featuring everything from the mighty Carrack Cruiser to the miniscule A-Wing.[/FONT]

[FONT=Century Gothic]The task force loses its freighter, and with it, its repair ability. Things went only one way from then on.[/FONT]

[FONT=Century Gothic]Status Quo in the alley now. [/FONT]

To play FS, you first need to upgrade your BF2142 copy to 1.40, for then to download both the FS 1.0 client and the 1.11 hotfix. Both are fully compatible with 1.40, but since they were made when 1.25 was out, they'll give you an error message saying that you need to install 1.25. Hit 'Ignore' and they'll proceed to install. To find servers, go to Multiplay, then hit the Advanced tab and uncheck the all filters but 'Same Mod'.

. I've gotten my hands on some great footage that way of other good matches, and waiting with FRAPS recording to when I'm watching the recording, with graphics on high, with a free cam. Allows for shots like this one:

I've only played one single round of BF2142 since I got it. And it was a local game with bots, so all I did was order them around as a Commander while dropping artillery on the enemy bots what felt like ever thirty seconds or so

. No, wait, I went into an off-line Titan mode game, too, just to check it out.

Then I never tried BF2142 again. It looked OK, but then again, it also looked like BF2 gameplay with new everything. They should've made a sequel to Project Reality instead.

Just got this mod, wow it's fun! Officer rocks, deploying a heaving blaster and wiping out troops, ahh good times!

Just remember that if you want to fire more than 85 shots, you need to have a Support player deploy a Generator next to the weapon
