If she said that to me I'd be pissed off too. We hate being called Americans haha. Anyways, yeah you can only tell the difference between certain Canadian and American accents. Americans from the south, or new york, or I guess several other areas have a certain kind of accent. Canadians from the east or west also have an accent. But people from major centers like LA, Toronto, Miami, they all sound roughly the same. There are differences sure, but it's more subtle. People from California talk faster and a bit more .. simply than Ontarians, imo.
But I've hung out with different people from different parts of the states and generally the only way you can tell it apart is certain words or expressions that people use (like "eh"). Although for some reason the americans seem to think that we say "About" differently than they do, which completely cracks me up because we say it the same way. I just stare at them like they are on drugs... |

Nah man, hosers say it differently. And a lot of people from smaller towns, especially in the prairies.
Newfies are the only really distinctive Canadian accent though. Working in the oil patch you meet a lot of really accent-heavy Newfies. |

Well, i suppose i'm a rare breed, much like ADA. Born in Cali, raised from day 2 in the NYC area. Everywhere I go, I've been told I sound native to the area (atleast in the CONUS, perhaps excluding some podunk southern towns.
I am Accent-less, and I'll be damned if I don't use it to my advantage lol. |

Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends upon what we look for. What we look for depends on what we think. What we think depends on what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. What we take to be true is our reality.

Honestly, the only time I can tell Americans from Canadians is when they say "about". (Americans pronounce the "ou" like "ow", like in the word "how", while Canadians pronounce "ou" like "oo", like in "spooky") Feel free to stare at me like I'm on drugs...

There is a huge range of american accents.
The northeast has the "boston" accent coupled alongside with the "new york" accent Probably from pennsylvania to the midwest down is considered "normal" american accents There is probably 3 different southern accents. Texas/ark one which I have is highly recognizable. The missippi to georgia one is twangy. And the carolinas/virginia one is just wierd Californians i think speak normally... |
