Well, you can't really compare these two... if you like fast-paced infantry combat then get CoD4... if you're more into PR gameplay and tactics, get ArmA...

Like bosco pointed out, the games are radically different. They're both First Person Shooters, but where ArmA is focused on realistic, long-range combat using both infantry and other assets, CoD4 seems to be all about close-range, urban frentic fast-paced infantry combat.

Actually, there is a part where you are a gunner in an AC-130, looks pretty damn sweet. I'd personally go for ArmA though, still have to get it sometime.

Both at the same time ?

Nah, start with CoD4. You can use the gaming time to download the gig of patches for ArmA

I also suggest you also to get yourself a soundmod for ArmA, 'cos the default sounds are crappy.
Good ones are Chammy's and Fromz's Feeling ArmA Melioration Mod (FFAM).
There's also FDF, but gear change sound in Ural was driving me crazy and Makarov sounds like a pocket version of M95

Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.

ArmA, in most people's opinions (and even those who play it) think that it is a poor game. It's fun, some of the time if you have a nice squad, but don't count on the multiplayer support all that much. Most of the servers run a coop mod called evolution, where the AI are ridiculously amazing at everything in some cases.

Katarn, you gotta change your avatar, NOW !

I've just wasted 5 minutes of my life watching it !

Yes, problem with ArmA is, that public gaming usually isn't worth a buck.
Why ? As Katarn said, most of the servers run Evolution and mainly they are full of cheater, teamkillers and that kind of scum (BI did a terrible job on securing the game against cheaters - basically every kid with PBO (un)packer and notepad can make a cheat)
