What level?

At undergrad level 4 different references is a pass, 7 different references is an A. Do what has material available.

Do something on Guiseppe Garibaldi. Some actually very well written up accounts of a 19th century campaign. effectively he was a "freedom fighter" so you might be able to contrast various modern uprisings and show how they differ etc.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guiseppe_Garibaldi

Studied him at A-Level, so if you need any info let me know.

He is well written up by some "proper" historians, more useful studying something that has been studied academically by some reputable sources so you have some sources to reference. A history paper with 3rd-rate sources will get you an F.
(yes they named the biscuit after him)

Thanks for all the input. As another guideline, it has to be a conflict that America was directly involved in militarily.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Are you only looking for modern warfare?

If that's the case than what about
Operation Gothic Serpent(Blackhawk down)
The Kosovo War

If you are interested in earlier wars or battles
Korean War
The Battle of Inchon
The Battle of Chosin Reservoir
WWII
Invasion of Normandy(so cliche)
Battle of the Bulge(Bastogne ftw!)
Pretty much any of the Major island hopping battles
Midway
Monte Casino
Kasserine Pass
Bombing of Dresden
etc
etc
etc

Then there's always Vietnam or WWI or the Mexican-American War or the revolutionary war or whatever.

Thanks luizinhuu for the find
