Serious question about US weapon exports
I often hear that the US is "the biggest exporter of weapons in the world". While I know we sell things like bombs and missiles, I also heard we sell our ground weapons to many places. But who buys American-made M16's? I haven't exactly seen them around, though in some places in the world it would NOT surprise me if I came across old automatic M16A1's.

I'm fairly sure Russia/Ex-Soviet are a bigger exporter than the US...60 million AK47's world attest to that. US my get more money from it bit in terms of quantity they're nowhere near.
I know Britain buys a few things; and a lot was previously sold to places such as Afghanistan, Israel and the like but they seem to have a lot of French stuff too. If the country is on the CIA's 'happy list' the US probably sells to them, but given the much better suitability of Soviet weapons for low-budget field maintanence and their lower price tag... |

I believe that Fatah uses a large amount of US weapons like M16s and M4s. However, I think that the US mostly sells more expensive stuff, with Russia and other cheaper exporters selling handguns.

Hardly anyone else uses the m16 series family. That alone should tell you what a piece of junk it is.

Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends upon what we look for. What we look for depends on what we think. What we think depends on what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. What we take to be true is our reality.

I had one "firearms expert" (PM me for his name/more info on the discussion) who's drunk on the "M16s are the sh!t" drink. He does tactical classes about 2 hours outside of where I live, and in passing I had mentioned my desire to buy a Steyr AUG, and his reply was, and I quote, "AUGs SUCK!". After drilling him for more information, he came up with some bollocks, then declined to comment any further. | |

lord of war is a movie on that topic, i personally dont know how accurate it is, i have not done to much research on the topic but i can easily see where the us could be labeled the biggest exporter in firearms if not directly exported from the us then possibly the distribution from other sources. I mean it dosnt take much looking to find that the us supplied the tallaban (spellcheck?) with weapons to fight the Russians when they came in to afganastan, and i think the us gave the rebels in cuba weapons right before the bay of pigs
