If the US army was to go back to the 7.62 then what rifle would be the preferred choice?
I personally like the M1A ![]() the FN-SCAR H ![]() the HK417 ![]() They all seem to be packing the punch from the 7.62 and hold their accuracy. the only problem I could see arising is the weight issue. |

Could you make a lot of changes to the AK47 to make it much better? Sure, but it would hardly be an AK47 then. My original argument still stands, neither the AK47 nor the M16 is the best, and we should be looking at what new designs work well, not trying to rationalize why we should hang on to the old ones.

Also about the M16 malfunctions, they are over blown. ![]() Quote:
Now back on the topic of US arms sales, there are a lot of old M16s and M60 in use in South Eastern Asian countries. I would say the M14 because we have thousands of them at the CMP and armories. Then the 417 because of similarity to the AR/M16 series. Also, bigger bore size does not mean accuracy.

I got the HK's because that was what was available, and I've had maybe 2 total jams ever that were a result of the mags, and one was my fault really. Love the HK mags. I can tell you right now, either your buddy got lucky as shit and got some magical m16, or he didn't shoot it that much. An m4 with that much dirt on it over there on the ejection side will fire 1 mag probably before jamming. When you swap mags the ejection port is open and so is the mag well which knocks in a lot of dirt to the receiver. Even a few grains can fubar the timing cycle of a m4/m16 and cause misfires/stovepipes.

![]() Is it just me, or does that look like an M4 lower with an M16a4 upper? |

That's an M16A4 with a collapsable stock.

Back on topic.
Now. This is not a place for you chaps & chapettes to go on about guns. Please find an appropriate thread. I am watching like a hawk. One more off topic post and the key to this thread goes to room 101. Clear? |

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Wish I had a picture of my brigade commanders m4-16. It was a M4 through and through, except for a m16 plastic butt stock. Weirdest thing you ever saw. But when your a brigade commander you can do things like that
