NOT AVG - its free but its pap.
if you want a free one alot swear by avast http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html I use CA myself http://home3.ca.com/Microsoft/Defaul...?sc_lang=en-GB when I got a 12 month trial on disk then when that ran out I registered by email for another 12month trial :P (only 3 month trial now though there is a free online scanner that I use every so often too http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ just to be sure so far it hasnt found anything that CA hasnt but when I used norton or AVG it found loads. Id reccomend doing and online scan at housecall then install avast |

I've used a bunch of them through the years and find "Avast" to be the very best all round...and It's 100% free. You never have to bother with pop-up offers to re-buy your definitions and other commercial crap offers.
http://www.avast.com/ While your at it check out this great free firewall, same deal totally unobtrusive and never a bother with updating game patches and other stuff: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ Get those two programs as well as "Ad-Aware" and "SpyBot Search & Destroy", your good to go. |

I've had bad experiences with free Anti Virus Software - now I'm using Kaspersky and havent had a single problem since I do so.

Yea..it will hold it and alert you first though to give you a chance to quarantine it first just in case its not a genuine Trojan. Which to me is very important because some programs appear to be Trojans to some virus scanners. *cough* Norton *cough*.

Oh yea make damn sure you totally delete AVG from your system. Be sure to go to Start/Search/Files and Folders, and purge anything with AVG tag even after uninstall has been done. Those commercial programs act much like Trojans themselves.

I've used Spy Doctor but had a extreamly hard time deleting it when I found it duplicated Spy bot's definitions. I'd stick to Ad-Aware & Spy-Bot they have the most exposeure to the community and should get the most up to date deffinitions.
I had no problem at the download: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-E...=dl&tag=button |
