Because of his short term memory I suggest you get him to make a file, rar it up with an email account password and then email that file to himself at that account. Providing that accounts password he will never forget.

I have brain damage myself and associated short term memory loss and these little tricks we learn help!

It should be somewhere in the BIOS. You should be able to get into it by pressing Delete after entering the password.
