Thumbs up Swedish Armed Forces at Dreamhack!

Dreamhack is the worlds biggest LAN party, held two times a year (summer and winter) in Jönköping, Sweden. It's a big event, 7 752 people attended last winter (10 638 with sponsors, crew and visitors). And besides all the computers, there's a big hall where companies, game developers, etc have booths to represent themselves and show up new products and games (Massive Entertainment had computers with a playable version of World in Conflict during the last event ). And, of course, professional game tournaments (CS, CoD, Warcraft, etc) are held, and they usually have booths for that to, with seats for the audience.

Read more about Dreamhack (DH) on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DreamHack

Anyway, I've been there four times in a row now, and it's defintly one of the highlights during the year! You meet a lot of people that you've only talked to on the internet before (at least I do ), play some games, mess around in the booths and so on... But this winter, Dreamhack will have special "guest" that makes me look forward to the whole thing more than usual.

Jas 39 gripen comes to DreamHack

One of the high points at this winter’s DreamHack takes place on Friday November 30 at 13.00 hours. An exclusive air show with the JAS 39 Gripen Combat Aircraft over Lake Vättern and DreamHack. And as if this shouldn’t be enough, our visitors will be able to win the Competition of the Year! The Swedish Armed Forces are offering for the first time a chance for a private individual to take a flight in JAS 39n Gripen. More info will be published shortly.

Inside at DreamHack, in the halls of Elmia, we will have a plus-500 square meter area with: Combat vehicles in booth and at Elmia. Patria and Stf 90
· Combat Aircraft: Full-scale model of JAS 39 Gripen.
· Simulators: Anti-aircraft and flight simulators
· Trailer filled with info and equipment

”Today we gather close to 3% of all men in Sweden between 15 and 25 years in a time when schools and industry are crying out for computer- and tech interested youth. We are the festival for the engineers IT-technicians of the future! We want to stimulate and nurture interest of technology. Together with the Armed Forces we allow our visitors see the hottest computer graphics in simulators that are one step above computer games”, says David Garpenståhl, DreamHack’s Chairman of the Board.

The defence of the future demands computer- and tech interested youth, and at DreamHack, the world’s largest computer festival, The Swedish Armed Forces are right on target. The Swedish Armed Forces are confirming DreamHack as a recruitment channel! During DreamHack our visitors will be able to talk with officers from the Armed Forces recruitment unit

”The Swedish Armed Forces want to have a presence at DreamHack where we have an unique opportunity to meet a lot of youths. There no other meeting place in Sweden where directly meet our target group – Youth between 15 and 25 years – when it comes to recruitment. Many of our platforms are today computer based and here we find the real enthusiasts. They are regular kids with a large interest in computers, IT and tech.”, says Martin Sachs, Planning Officer at the Recruitment Centre.

***Top Secret Mission***

During November DreamHack will together with The Swedish Armed Forces, will hold an exclusive competition for DreamHack’s participants. The winner will get a secret experience prize.
I promise to write a "report" about the airshow and the booth with all the goodies. Maybe I can get some pictures as well.

And, of course, I'm going to win that ride with Gripen.

The language and concepts contained in this post are guaranteed not to cause eternal torment in the place where the guy with the horns and pointed stick conducts his business.

Alright, lets look at this picture showing the arctic circle; http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...tic_circle.jpg

As you will see, only the most northern part of Sweden is above the circle.(We are located in northern part of Europe for those of you who failed geography..)
Jönköping is way south west of Stockholm, so its not even close.

On topic:
I went last year, and had I known this I probably would have gone this year as well.
Great fun though with or without the military

It was not directed at you, or any specific person or country.
Some people do have very little knowledge about the world though.
