Shares are usually sold/traded in 100 lot shares...and Requiem is right; you better know your stuff right now because the market is over bought and according to chart patterns ready for a major retracement. I'd look into commodities at this point.

For the beginner or dormant investor I recommend ETF's if you're looking to remain in the equity market, even with the transactions costs nowadays it still adds up if you're trying to put together a portfolio of c. 50 shares. With regards to commodities, don't burn your fingers, whole different ball game

Roger that Requiem. My fingers have been burned so many times brother, I'm heat resistant heh-heh. I'm actually in the commodity options game and good ol' PR keeps me from over trading. When things get too hot and I get too exited, I jump into a game to cool out.
