The guy forced his way to the front of the line, taking the opportunity to speak away from those who had it rightfully. He then decided to deliver more of a speech than a question. His aggressive and disorderly behavior caused the police to attempt to remove him. He resisted their efforts, and was tazed. Sure he was outnumbered. But you can always get a chance elbow out and break someone's nose, no matter how many of them there are. I don't think the police should have to deal with risk that on a daily basis just for a paycheck. So he was tazed to ensure compliance and the safety of the officers (the people in this situation who *weren't* doing something wrong).

Dumb kid: 0 (unless you count all the free publicity on the news media for his journalism major)

Cops 1 (unless you count all the heat they're getting and the fact they're being investigated now)

The problem with this situation is that anybody with an understanding of the principles of law enforcement knows the cops acted within their duty. But these guys will still be suspended because their superiors are more worried about the politics of keeping their jobs and getting promotions than they are with the effectiveness with which they conduct their jobs.

The cop glances up. His mouth is upturned, but I hardly think it's a grin. You can't see enough in that one or two frames to distinguish a grin from a look of exasperation.

That is the same as the second one I posted.

And what do you know,....he has a website
http://www.theandrewmeyer.com/sketches.asp

And read how his website descibes what happened, as if we can't believe what we see and need him to tell us what really happened.

Andrew Meyer is currently incarcerated in Alachua County. While asking U.S. Senator John Kerry a question during a question and answer period following Kerry's speech at the University of Florida, Meyer was attacked by five police officers, manhandled and tasered. Fortunately there are videos and many witnesses to this injustice. Some articles and videos are linked below. Please show your support by educating yourselves and raising awareness by letting others know what has happened. Continue checking back to this website for updates.

There was no need to tazer his stupid ass, esp when there are plenty of your peers helping you.
He tries to put his foot down while going down a set of stairs. This trips you and him, and because hes in a bear hug he can't move. You both fall and you break your arm while he breaks his neck, paralyzing him for life.

Far fetched? You can break an arm with the pressure from a 9 year old girl. Anyone whose spent even an afternoon taking a combatives class can tell you how easy is to to get hurt while grapling/fighting, even with multiple assailents.

So, because of the risk of serious injury (wrist snap easily too, and an eye gouge making you blind for the rest of your life kind of sucks) 'manhandling' a subject doesn't work, no matter the amount of officers because only so many of them can act on the subject at 1 time.

I agree with ArmedDrunk&Angry. Don't care to elaborate because then I will join the pointless argument.

Thats about as likely as him having a heart attack from getting tazed, and since when do police give a shit if you get hurt when they restrain you. Ummm getting tackled at full speed onto pavement when running, getting "tapped" by a patrol car, having a full grown man put his knee into your sternum while you are prone.... ect. They can use whatever method they want really, they don't weigh the pros and cons in a split second. And in this case they did bear hug him and lift him, obviously without regard for the situation you described.

I would have still dragged his ass out. They didn't have to tazer him to cuff him. It was for pain compliance.

How knowledgeable do you have to be to post on this forum... Oh, wait... right..

Well, if you want to know, the standards for a SECURITY GUARD(Using NY State law as my base) are on the rise. None of the security companies I've been in touch with allow even badged cops to carry their weapons if they moonlight as security guards. Most don't even allow tasers. They allow Cap-stun(pepper spray), a radio, and a uniform. That's usually it.

There are 8 hour classroom training courses, to be completed yearly(to maintain your license), along with mandatory 16 hours on the job training. Firearms training courses are 47 hours long. Most schools that require an on-campus reaction force that can use firearms, atleast the SUNY schools, have State University Police. They carry, and in a few cases, maintain the ROTC Dept's Armory.

Private schools may exercise armed patrols, but there's too much liability, and they may only hire retired cops. It all depends.

It seems that those in question in the video were likely badged UPD officers. Their training information is here:

Quote:
The University of Florida Police Department recognizes that one of the keys to successful law enforcement operations is a police officer who is well trained and prepared to do his or her job at all times. Accordingly, the members of the Training Division, comprised of one lieutenant, one officer, and one senior secretary, continually work to ensure all aspects of law enforcement training are completed. This training, conducted bi-annually while assigned to the University of Florida Police Department, meets and exceeds the continuing education/training requirements as outlined by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. The members of the University of Florida Police Department's Training Division are directly responsible for every element of employee training and equipment supply. The new departmental employee hired for any non-sworn position first undergoes initial training, ranging from 160 to 240 hours dependant upon specific position, designed to familiarize the employee with department and university operations, policies, and procedures. The employee also attends several training sessions designed to assist the employee in the transition into his or her new position. The employee who is hired for a sworn law enforcement position initially participates in 240 hours of in-service training. This training, similar to that described above, also includes follow-up training in weapons/use of force, defensive tactics, first responder procedures to include use of defribrilator devices, law enforcement driving techniques, report writing, investigative techniques, and crime scene/evidence collection procedures. Once the officer has successfully completed this training, he or she is then assigned to a field training officer in the Patrol Division (see the field training officer program link for more information).

We hope that you take the opportunity to read the information describing our Field Training Officer Program and the Officer In-Service Training. Since we will continue to expand our sources of information and post them as they become available, please be sure to check back often. If you wish to contact the members of the Training Division, please feel free call (352) 392-8949 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. (except on university or national holidays) or write to the following address...

Thank you for trying to bash Americans once again, sir. Have a nice day.

Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends upon what we look for. What we look for depends on what we think. What we think depends on what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. What we take to be true is our reality.

Stop screaming & struggling. Problem solved. No tazer needed. It's simple. Whether tazing was nessecary or not isn't what I care about, it's when people bitch about police taking action against someone fighting&n struggling that bothers me.

Sidenote: The other day there were some guys (3-4) tagging up a wall in my area. A cop pulled over and attempted to arrest them. They first refused - followed by some threats. Before long the cop ended up on the ground beaten half to death before neighbors came out and helped. Afterwards the cop had said he was afraid to face police brutality charges, as his friend did who faced a similar encounter.
