canadians dont need a gun to feel safe. I lived in toronto for many years and i would guess that it is the most violent city in canada (not sure but assume so)
I never once felt that i needed to carry a gun to protect myself. purely my opinion..

I say to the government of canada....

1. start buying guns off the street for cash.. as many as possible

2. close down the gun makers..all of them aside from combat/security type weapons contracted by the government and police forces. desingate specific makers and place strict controls and registrations systems for each individual weapon. Make illegal the weapons manufacturing industry as a private money maker.

3. continue to buy guns off the streets.


Basically what it comes down to is people liking guns.. the hobbiest, the historians, the military types, the power mongers, the hicks in the sticks etc..
people like guns fro various reasons...i guess its alot like smoking IMO... you know its not good for you but you do it anyway...

anyway...not going to split hairs with you guys all day..but there is nothing beneficial to society for any individual to be carrying a handgun. (see brit police if you need evidence)

i dont know..this stuff just gets me angry.. id rather fight man to man than have some coward stick a gun in my face.. even a kid can do that...

And people wonder why we can't 'win' wars anymore. Our society has become so centered on reliance of others for our own safety and security, that we get all shocked and bothered when something happens that the authority can't save us from. Violence happens. Just because it hasn't happened too you doesn't mean it doesn't.

Police don't prevent crime. They respond to it. Only the victim can stop the crime from happening. I'd like to see you walk up to a women whose been raped because she wasn't allowed to carry a firearm and tell her she should have just called the police.

And yes I would walk up to someone whose son or daughter whose been shot by a stray drive by bullet and tell them I want to maintain my right to bear arms. Because I'd tell them I would have gladly taken the bullet for their child and returned many in kind at the attackers, thus preventing some one elses kid from suffering the same fate.

They make gun owners happy since they can buy old junk guns and "sell" it to the city to buy more/better guns.

Ministers 'covered up' gun crime

The Home Office figures - which exclude crimes involving air weapons - show the number of deaths and injuries caused by gun attacks in England and Wales soared from 864 in 1998-99 to 3,821 in 2005-06. That means that more than 10 people are injured or killed in a gun attack every day.

I'm glad to see the gun ban is working out so well for them I wish them continued success.

You hunt with a handgun? The guy was talking about banning handguns and not banning all guns in general. Therefor, hunting will not be hindered as rifles will still be legal.

I don't know many women who carry and are trained in the safe use of pistols that have been raped recently. Do you?

A .38 snubbie is a lot more of a deterrent than a can of OC. When you spray an attacker, and scream for help... then no one comes... you'll probably die when he comes back with his buddies.

When you spray an attacker with OC and the wind direction changes (it's happened to cops before), and you catch it in your own face, you're just as disabled as your attacker.

When you point a gun at a perp and put a round center mass that knocks him on his ass, or even simply pull it on him, you become a hard target. OC spray and pepper spray can be overcome by a fit of rage, it's been done before.

What do you do when the OC fails? Bend over and take it?

I have the answer.
Call out the national guard and for 5 days everyone will give up their rights and allow the government to search and confiscate all weapons.
Anyone with illegal weapons will be arrested on the spot and allowed a hearing to prove their innocence.
There might be some shooting by the militias and some gangs but that is what Apache gunships are for.

Just 1 business week and then we can all be safe knowing that the government has collected all the weapons in the country and now only the police will have guns.
Men can be men again and beat each other down with their fists with no fear of the loser pullling his gat out and popping a cap.

Women probably won't be any better off but at least they won't be shot after being raped.

Then, knowing that our government has protected us, we can all live happily ever after.
