Btw, half my family is German too and they weren't Jews either, but still got devastated by the war. Most of them got stuck between Stalin and Hitler and were just never heard from again. Statistically* 1,810,000 civilians 7,503,000 total...10% dude!...and that don't include the German Jews. So Fish you would have had a 10-1 chance you'd have died as well.

I think it's silly that people are getting pissed off over people's answers to a no-win hypothetical. For example, if someone asked me what my preferred method for killing my self would be, my answer would be, "I don't plan on killing myself." But thats not the question. Similarly, the question is not, "Would you like to live under a dictator?", but the subtext, "If you had to live under a dictator, which one would afford you the best chance to survive and thrive?"

That being said, I voted for Hitler. As I'm a WASP (well, a WASA) of Germanic stock, had it not been for WW2 I think that regime would have afforded me the best opportunity to thrive. I could have been PC and said "Idi Amin", but that would have been a lie.

As it stands, this poll seemed doomed at the start.

No. The question is "If you had to live under a dictator, which would it be?" The purely self interested criteria you've provided were never explicitly or implicitly contained in the original question. Whenever somebody is presented with more than one option, the choice they make defines them as a person. Whether they wanted to make a choice or not. The fact is, those who chose Hitler chose him over alternative options, such as Castro.

And I'm rarely not calm. Even when angry. Now's no exception. If you have an argument to make as to why choosing Hitler is morally defensible, do so. But failed attempts at semantics arguments are worthless to me.
