re: desert snipers and camofalge

right yeh i know absolutely nothing about military, so this is for me a totally random question but what ever,

right would a sniper in a desert -dont ask me what hes doing- would he rather lay down and get his spotter to cover him with sand or something? rather then try and buy some fancy camo stuff?

yeh i really didnt know where this question should go so sorry mods if its the wrong section.

Don't think he'd cover himself with sand .

He'd probably wear a ghille suited to a desert environment. That's just a guess on my part though.

What's the point of the sniper being covered with sand (not that they do that) if the spotter who is right next to him is visible still?

I LOL'd.

Okay, englighten us then, Jaymz.

Okay, well it depends on what kinda of desert environment we're talking about.

If it's something like this..

I'd wager the sniper would wear a ghille suit.. they did 'Shooter' anyway .

If we're talking about something like this..

Who knows.

If we're talking about the largest desert on earth..

Some sort of camo.. not sure about a ghille suit.

Okay Jaymz.. go to town with witty corrections .

Desert Environment = Far too hot/humid for a ghillie suit to prove anywhere near as useful as it would in a forest/woodland environment. Hydration issues etc...

That is where one of these..

..comes in useful.

.

In the opening scene of 'Shooter' (starring Marky Mark!), the sniper and spotter are in Rhodesia (?) wearing ghille suits. That being said, the terrain was fairly mountainous and it was a Hollywood movie.
