Price at around $800 without video card.
I will be getting a video card for Christmas/Bday. Will be getting the 8800GTS 320mb. - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Dual Core Processor Socket AM2 Windsor 2.6GHZ 2000FSB 2X1MB 90NM Retail Box - OCZ Gold XTC PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-12 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit - ASUS TA-21A Mid Tower ATX Case Black 3X5.25 2X3.5 4X3.5INT No PS Front USB & Audio - Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 ATX AM2 GF6100 NF430 PCI-E16 4PCI SATA2 RAID Video Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB 8.9MS Hard Drive 3YR MFR Warranty - LG GSA-H54N DVD+RW 18X8X16 DVD-RW 18X6X16 DL 10X DVD Writer IDE 2MB Black OEM W/ SW - LG L1953T-SF 19IN LCD Silver 1280X1024 5MS 1280X1024 2000:1 300CD/M2 VGA DVI-D F-ENGINE Monitor - Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX 12V 33A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan all from NCIX.com, all CAD Total BEFORE Price Match: $882.22 YOUR TOTAL: $797.14 - $40 rebate + $30 keyboad/mouse from elsewhere + XP Pro ~$50 This is big news! Before, I could only play stuff at my Mom's, as the computer at my dad's is really bad. (700mhz processor!) But one day my dad said, help me research into buying a new computer for around $800. I'm not getting a video card until Chirstmas, as I would have to buy it as my Dad doesn't need a video card, and I don't have the money to do that. And also, school is starting, and I don't want to be distracted. So what do you guys think of the setup? |

Congratulations GeZe, I think it's a fantastic deal. Can't believe it's only priced at $800w/monitor. Dude you've just lit a fire under my ass...heh-heh...I've been thinking about new machines alot lately anyway, this dog of mine is starting to scare me.

Looks like a pretty decent rig. However, I personally prefer Intel, because I am able to tun a 110 dollar chip (e4300) at 2.9ghz at stock voltage. There is no way you can get that Kind of percentage increase on AMD without going to a phase change cooling system (my rig is on air). But, that chip is certainly good enough for PR (plus decent graphics) if thats the only resource intensive app you run. Also, I know what its like going from a 4oomz pc to 2.4 ghz, so it should be a similar jump for you. Hope you enjoy it.

I just built :
asus m2v AM2 mobo £38 AM2 6000+ £105 (stock fan is fine, it has heatpipes and a quiet fan on it!) 2gigs pc6400 Geil 4-4-4-12 ram (bloody mobo running ram slower, voltage couldn't reach 2.1, only 1.95v my old MSI x1950pro 256meg card runs PR at 1440x900 everything max, only Al Basrah has the odd problem. Bioshock not a problem at all, C&C 3 Tiberium Wars nice and smooth at 1440x900 I'm about to buy an x1950pro for my kids as found aria.co.uk selling a Jetway one for £72 inc p&p and that's damned cheap for what it does. Haven't really felt a need for anything better than the x1950pro yet (pr at least games I like that need more!) |

Nice setup GeZe. I have ordered lots of stuff through NCIX and been very happy. I have recieved things next day from them in Ontario!!
I would also check Canada Computers and direct Canada for price comparisons. You may want, and if you can stretch the budget, bump the PSU up to the 520W to be safe but the Corsair PSU's are really solid (I have one, very happy) I don't think you can beat that processor for the price. Yes the Intels will clock much higher but if you don't plan to OC then the AM2 should be good. If anything you may want to Grab a C2D 6300 as it runs at 1066fsb for $185, about a $35 jump. I would strongly recomend holding going into a local shop to check out the monitors. The color quality is not the same, I took my original back as the color was awfull no matter the settings, but it had really good reviews online. Just be sure that you can return the monitor if you don't like it. Enjoy the new system |

That does not sound legit. In fact, there's pretty much no way that's legit. He's either selling you a bootleg copy, or he's just burying the real cost of XP somewhere else, like in the labor. If you are going to get a bootleg XP, you might as well spend $0 on it instead of $35.
