Build me a rig for $1000
Well, I'm kind of tired on waiting three minutes for a map to load and playing at 18 fps if the server has more than 32 people so I'm opting for a new rig. I think I will be getting xp so Direct X 10 shouldn't be a concern. But I haven't the slightest idea of what to choose when it comes to motherboard, psu, and cases. I will salvage my sound card, monitor, and input devices from my old PC. Now here is the stuff I think I'll get. Please give me any comments on it.
RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220144 Hard Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148262 Vid Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143070 OR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127284 CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003 I don't know which vid card to choose, but I just want PR running at a constant 80 fps with everything high 1280x1024 . Will this cut it? Also, as I've said, I'd appreciate if someone could give me a hand on choosing the motherboard, psu, and case and explain why i should get one over the other. |

As to your question on VC performance, I am not entirely sure, but I would change that Seagate to a Hitachi, I used to use Seagate and I never realized how loud they are compared to my new Hitachi.
Tomshardware has a good feature on comparing Video card performance based on certain settings, etc. GL |

Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case $50
Gigabyte P35-DS3L- $95 Core 2 Duo e6750 $200 (better than what you picked and less expensive) evga 8800 gts 320mb $250-280 (will run any game max at that resolution) Corsair HX520 watt PSU - $90 dollars from buy.com That ram and hard drive are good. |

It will work together but you dont need that PSU. It's pretty expensive and its not modular (meaning youll have a ton of extra cables in your case instead of only the ones you need)

Ok, so before I go ahead and buy all this, can you give me an idea of exactly how well it will run something like PR on max settings, and how well it would run something like ArmA or anything else in the near future.
Would I also need to buy a new Windows XP key or can I use the one from my old computer, sorry if this is a noob question? Also, thanks alot for helping. |

You should be able to use your old CD Key, MS help desk is usually okay if you can understand them

It depends on which version of windows you purchased. If you got the OEM version, then you will need another copy.

Obstacle number 2, does anyone have a website that can show my parents that building a PC is just as reliable as buying a prebuilt one? I feel its very unjust of them of preventing me to buy my parts with money that I earned over the summer, but they heard rumors that home-built PCs s*ck.

Just tell them they are stupid, no offense lol.
There is no website, just tell them you're not an idiot and it's easy to do. |
