The gitarist topic

Hello, are there guitarists here?

I'm now learning to play guitar again. I can only play some chords and read tabs.

Does anyone have an easy beginners song?

Let's talk about guitar playing here.

i'm a bass player but i play some guitar...best way to learn is to listen to songs you like and figure out the rifs on your own

Someone please tell me that the above is irony.

I have an acoustic guitar. I used to have a second-hand electric guitar but the sound was really bad.

I play bass, but just learn power chords, then go to a guitar tabs place and you'll be set. the kinks are pretty easy to learn and the sonics, 3-5 chords, ramones of course, not sure if that's your type of music though.

Aces High from Iron Maiden was my first full-played song. The good thing about it is that the solo is easy to play.

Mostly Black Sabbath songs have some real easy riffs but hard solos.

Nothing Else Matters by Metallica and Patterns in the Ivy by Opeth were my first (and both work on an acoustic)... As well as Black Sabbath, try some AC/DC for easy riffs.

Well electrics and acoustics aren't the same actually. Only a good quality acoustic with light gauge strings and low action on the fret board qualifies as a good learning instrument. I've seen a shitloads of wanna-be riff'sters quit learning because of cheap boxes. If you're serious about learning and depending on the condition of your acoustic, go to a pawnshop and get a relatively inexpensive Japanese knockoff w/small amp, then go to a music store* and buy:
- A new set of light gauge strings (dude at the store might even string your ax for you)
- A beginners learning book. To learn fundamentals such as how to properly hold the instrument as well as tune it. Once you foul up the fundamentals your screwed for the life of your playing carer, believe me I know it's a long trip back to the garden (*tip: try alternative tuning such as; drop D open D or bastard G tuning. Most power guitarist never use the standard E as the alternatives are easier to learn and play riffs with.
- Sheet music with Tabs of easy music (like RIKI said; Kinks, or old Stones, Beatles etc)then play along with the songs. After a couple weeks you won't even need to refer to the tabulation you'll just recognize the written note and you'll make the chord automatically.

At this point the only thing I'd go on-line for is a guitar tuner site (where you actually hear the note as a tone to help you tune your ax until you can do it yourself without aid.

Next; from your music store bought learners book...start playing scales everyday at about the same time of day till your fingers feel kinetic enough to learn proper riffs. Then start trying to "jam" with music you prefer.

* Reason I say music store instead of on-line is its easier to grasp the concept with hard copy in your hands. For me anyway.
