Smoke on water, teenage kicks. Give them a try, and learn to spell gaytar.

COMON! My new Fender Stratocaster is coming to my house in 5 days

All in arctic white, with a rosewood fingerboard, absolute sex

I have a question. Is there a big difference between acoustic and electric guitar playing? Is the technique the same with chords?

I'm relativaly shitty at guitar even though I've been playing for 2 years or so. The first song I've learned in full was Dust in the Wind by Kansas. The next one was Babe I'm gonna leave you by Led Zeppelin. Others are Space Oddity by Bowie and Stairway to Heaven (still can't play the solo though, just the beginning.) I also learned Astronomy by Blue Oyster Cult which happens to be my favorite song (cant do the solo on this either, pity)

The only song I can play in full and compensating for two guitars is Last Days of May by Blue Oyster Cult

I know how to play the riffs of the following songs:
Smoke on the Water, Don't Fear the Reaper, Simple Man, and some others I can't remember.

Yes there is a big difference in technique mainly because acoustics generally have broader necks, wider fret-boards with higher action and heavier gauge strings.

You can re-string yours with new light gauge steel strings or even nylon strings (Spanish style and easy on the fingers for learning) but you can't do a whole lot about the neck with the exception of adjusting the thrust rod* if it even has one. You'll find access to it just above the "nut" (at the head of the instrument between the fretboard and where the tuning pegs are.

To adjust:
Take the guitar hold it foreward, body towards you, strings facing upward much like aiming a rifle in PR and take a look down the neck and strings. Is there a lot of clearance between the neck and strings? Do you see any warping? And when you hold it and press down on the strings is it easy to touch the fretboard with the strings? Make your adjustments. you'll need a small Allen wrench http://www.cvfsupplycompany.com/alwrensetalw.html

*note* if/when you go to a store to buy an electric definitely take a look at the action like I described above...and all electrics have thrust rods btw.

*Thrush rod = A steel rod built into the neck to adjust the flatness or roundness of the neck/fretboard essentially lowering or raising the action or to correct a "dead spot" or wrap.

"Babe I'm gonna leave you" ain't an easy song to play, at least the intro isn't. It tends to cramp your hand because it's one big long chord with a shitload of augmented and diminished divisions. Don't count yourself short Leo.

Well, I'm just pissed at myself that I wasn't getting any further with my instructor when it comes to soloing and improvising.

I tried to play Paranoid from Black Sabbath but it didn't work. But I'm going to take guitarlessons.
