The main bit where ATI is lacking these days is with the drivers, nvidia do seem to have better drivers. Thou if you are building a "budget system", I would recommend going for an ATI card, if not, nvidia as they do seem to make the better cards these days
pci-e

1) ati x1950pro & AMD san diego 3700+ & 2 gigs pc3200

Al Basrah, 1024x768 @ 70hz everything medium, 2xAA, full draw not smooth, loads of laggy moments, flying not enjoyable.

2) ati x1950pro & AM2 6000+ & 2 gigs pc6400

Al Basrah 1440x900 @ 70hz everything maxed out. 50-100fps some lag moments but don't ruin game, although flying Merlin around gives a few skipped frames regularly and you can't fly perfectly.

Seems Al Basrah is not only GPU intensive, but is CPU intensive too. This map MUST be optimised for future releases.

Most other maps seem fine although Qwai River does start to lag sometimes for periods of times and I can't figure out why. Seems to be a RAM issue under certain circumstances.

Al Basrah is map that crashes me, black to desktop mainly, but also a few pc restarts...

Really like this map, but I also like my GFX and CPU with a heart beat...

Would be great if it was optimised

Aye, aswell as the number of players. With around 64 players it's unbearable, but on a server with twenty people, it's nice .

If you are reading this dont stop, cause if you do, I'll kick you in the balls.

I do have the PCI-E version, and a Intel Core2 Duo and Basrah runs fine at 1024x768 with 4x AA + all on high, only time i lag is in the merlin thou thats just a bug, every one lags in it.

I was more disappointed in its cooling system and other things etc thou I think im going to replace the fan with a AC one, still a damn awesome card for Ģ100.

Although my 7600GT isnīt great, I have PR on max settings apart from two. Dynamic shadows and something else on medium, which havenīt made a noticable difference to my graphics. I have 8xAA and 16xAF and 1440x900 resolution and everything runs fine, I get the occasional lag at the begining of some maps, and some like operation ghost train lag a bit more with the grass. But apart from that it works very well. I do have a core 2 duo E6600 which I would think is limited by the 7600GT but gives me that extra FPS that I wouldnīt otherwise get.

As for nvidia or ati, I have only used nvidia so I donīt know, but I canīt say either would be better, just the card with the right performance and price.

And I wouldnīt say nvidias drivers are great, the latest ones were weird on my monitor, I could scroll left and right because it didnīt show the whole desktop on it at native resolution and everything was "blurry" or out of focus. The 162.18 drivers. Anyone else had this problem?

EDIT: Ah, and the lag merlin bug? I donīt think I have had that?

How do you guys measure your settings?

I have noticed that depending on which server Iīm on it is a Hugh difference in performance! When playing on my favorite server I experience no lagging , freezing of the frames, but on all other servers as I can remember it is not as smooth.
Q: How do you get a correct Fps in-game?

specs: 8800GT, AMD 3500+ and 2 gig of ram
