Moving to New York, need advice

I'm moving to New York soon (from Ireland), and I need to get myself sorted out with broadband as soon as I've found somewhere to live. Can anyone recommend a broadband provider, someone I can get a good ping with on European servers? We'll be living in Manhattan.

I live in Brooklyn and I think the only place to get broadband from is ComCast, but there might be more options in manhattan.

What area are you living in in manhattan? are you going to school there? I know for electricity you go to con edison. I get decent ping on euro servers i think, if i wasn't working a 60 hour week id check some euro servers for you on PR when I get home but I think I might just go home and pass out. If there's anything else you need to know, or need help looking for a job I can try my best to help you out.

I live in the Bronx and i get my internet from cable but the modem they give you always seems to change. Ive had motorola and now web cast or something but the connection is always pretty good. Ping on euro servers is like random, sometimes its good and other times not so good but ping in the US is always good.

Hope this helps and yes con ed runs things out here with power(which i find funny because they advertise on the trains and i wonder why!??!?! Its not like we have any other real choice lol)

Hey, I live in Suffolk County in Commack. I too get my internet from cable. What you get from cable is (http://www.optimum.com/online/speed.jsp). That shows you an example of the speeds. As for Euro servers, I personally get around 100-150 ping which isnt bad at all. Hope that helped.

I always wondered the same thing, Do you really have to advertise when you have a monopoly on something?

Time Warner/ Road Runner with the whole package is the best choice. Phone, internet and TV!
All that will cost you around 100~140$ a month. You can also get the DVR version if you want, and if you chose to get HBO or Cinemax you get them on-demand. I used to live in Manhatten and that what i used, now i have Optimum cable which is the Bronx verson of Road Runner.

Thanks for the advice everyone, most appreciated. So I shouldn't have too much of an issue with playing on servers in Europe, that's a relief.

@RikiRude - Not sure where we'll be living yet, need to go apartment hunting the day after we get there, but we hope it'll be around the Midtown area. I won't be going to school, I'll be working over there. I have a work visa sorted out and my girlfriend's job is moving her to Manhattan. And thanks for the offer of help man, cheers. I'll let ya know.

@NYgurkha - I'll look in to the Time Warner package, cheers. I'd prefer it if it's one bill for everything!
