Battlefield stories, virtual.
After reading the 'Sad story' thread, I became curious in regards to other battlefield stories which might be told by the community here, but only of the virtual kind. I do not ask for real battlefield stories because I believe it may be disrespectful to the individual soldier because his (or in some cases her) experience is very real, and very deadly.
I would give my own experiences but... Eh, I just tried to write one down and I honestly don't think anyone wants to read this. Trying to describe what happened in ten minutes is hard for me because the story I wrote down is now about four pages in length on my word processor, and I'm not even done. I think I'll just have to settle for asking about some really need situations the people here have gotten into (or out of |

Well, once upon a time in the land of Clean Sweep....
I was with a US team who had captured the MEC flag closest to the US spawn. We were hard pressed to hold on to that flag as we were assaulted from all directions at once. Suddenly all small arms fire just stopped... I realized I was the only US soldier left to hold the flag... Not good. But why had all the firing stopped? An incoming artillery strike? I made a dash towards the stinger site just below the hill. I got behind the sandbagas just as the first rounds struck all around the flag area and I thought to myself: "HA, Sucker! Missed me by a mile!" Next thing I hear is the roar of a jet screaming overhead... Russian built and lethal. I got in the stinger launcher, got the lock on tone and launched two stingers. Too soon! He unhooked one stinger with a tight turn towards the island and the other stinger went for a flare... Silence... Where did he go?? Suddenly there is the low roar of a jet approaching again, from behind. I turn quick as the devil, only to see 3 fin retarded bombs drop from his racks aimed right at me... The awesome sight of the fins deploying is quite probably the most exciting gaming moment I've had since the first time I played Doom! |

I've had that happen quite a bit. It's always scary to turn around after hearing the screaming engines of a jet only to find yourself staring at the nose of a bomb.

Indeed... But it looked so damned beautiful. Know what I mean?
Seeing those oblong shapes "bloom" as the fins deployed.... Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. |
