It's an M134. It's the miniturised version of the Vulcan that fires 7.62 instead of 30mm. And they don't mount them on humvee's because they need a power source, which is expensive, so they tend to be pretty unique to choppers like the Blackhawks and so on. Think they use them on the AH-6's too, one either side.

I've seen the video too of the M134 on the humvee. I believe General Dynamics has a video of a GAU-19 on their website.

Vulcan's have been chambered for pretty much all rounds. They even did a 5.56 version but it was, in short... crap. The power to cost ratio didn't justify it's use. The M134 is a varient for 7.62 use. The cannon on the Cobra is a varient also, just with 3 barrels instead of 6 to make ammo last longer, and to make it easier to maintain.
The GAU-8 on the A-10 is an upchambered Vulcan varient too. Good old 30mm power! Just thought, imagine it being rarden ammo? Woah! (By varient I mean it uses the same/similar mechanisms by the way. They were all derrived from the Vulcan) |

Ok people. Here's the story on that gun. It's the GAU-17. The minigun that's in BF2. That's how it really fires, that how the tracers really look during the DAYTIME. A biggol' stream of tracers that almost looks like a laser.
The one where you see 2 streams is where the gunners have locked the guns in the "fixed foreward" mode so the pilots can shoot it. The reason some videos don't have tracers is because they're using IR tracers during the daytime. Belive me, it happens. If you get low on training ammo at the end of the fiscal year, you're shooting whatever you have left. The name at the end of the video is the maker of the newest most badass feeder on the market for the GAU-17. It hardly ever jams and it's easy to clear a jam cause the feeder actually opens up for a quick (20 seconds) clear. By the way, with this BF2: SF mod out, mabye nighttime will be easy to incorperate into your mod. Then you could use the IR tracers. Anyone with NVG's on could see em. Anyone without em would be screwed. |
