DAMN YOU EA! DAMN YOU!

Ok, back in the day I enjoyed the following Westwood RTS games.

Red Alert 1 (Which was my first RTS)
Tiberian Dawn (Got me hooked on the Tiberium series)
Tiberian Sun (Probably the best Westwood RTS)

Right. Well this thread isn't about how much you liked or disliked the game (that thread to come soon by me), but here is my outcry.

TD came first in the CnC series. For those not in the know, in the TD world, it was supposedly normal earth history until a meteor hit earth in 1995, causing a small impact and scattering a crystal that grows called Tiberium. This crystal soaks up trace elements from the soil and makes it really easy to collect, by breaking down the crystal. This means that all the little particles of gold, copper, uranium, etc in your back yard could be collected up and sold if you planted these crystals. Unfrotunatly, we seeded them EVERYWHERE, as you can easily see how awesome an ability something like this would be to have. Well a decade or so after we started widespread planting it turned toxic. As of the last game in the series, it has seriously f*cked our world up.

Red Alert came after TD. RA's world was about Einstein experimenting with time travel. He warps back to 1928 and meets Hitler, when he was leaving jail. He talks with him and then phases him out of history. Because Hitler wasn't there, in this hypothetical world Stalin was left unchecked and the Soviet union began to dominate all of Europe.

RA had a few allusions to what happened in TD, but not the other way around. Kane, an important character in TD, does appear in RA, and RA makes allusions to a "Global Defense Agency" being formed (GDI). TD however makes no reference to anything that happened, and the technologies in RA where "superior" in some ways to TD. Westwood used to say they where going to eventually make the series meet, though many fans had accepted that they where two different worlds, both of earth, but set apart by Einstein either successfully removing Hitler (RA) or failing to (TD) and the world going on as we've known it IRL.

Well, EA made Red Alert 2, which makes the series even FURTHER apart, and while I hated RA2, I was relieved that the two worlds where not one in the same.

However, EA, in it's infiniate lack of f*cking wisdom, announced that they where making an "official" mod for Crysis, where the two words where going to become AS ONE! This is horrible! Who else feels this is UNWISE and STUPID?

Do you really need the input of others to determine whether or not EA is 'Stupid and unwise' ?

EA games really needs to die...

I recently read a interview with the chief c**t (John Riccitiello)
that they were "boring people to death by making games harder and harder to play"..!

IDIOTS!

Do we really need to point out every single time you haters come online with your venom and hatred for EA, that without EA and DICE there would be NO Project Reality?

So, could a mod please lock this thread?

RA was always intended to be a prequel to TD. RA2 muddied the waters somewhat, but in premotional matieral there were still hints at the timelines being linked.

Overall, one must consider the links put in place prior to EA involvement. And those links between Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn/Sun are undeniable.

In addition, I would point out that Westwood had planned to repair the damage done to the C&C time line with Renegade 2. However, due to the poor sales of Renegade this project was canceled.

As for the "superior" technologies of RA, lets look at them:

Chronoshifting - In RA (RA2 is considered a spin-off rather than part of the true story until cannon states otherwise) this is an experimental and incredibly temprimental process. Only a single viechle can be transported as it kills unprotected infantry, any use of it may produce a chrono vortex (with potentially devestating consiquences) and all in all, following the conclusion of the war its perfectly believeable that such a project would be abandoned.

The Iron Curtain - Soviet technology. Not just regular soviet technology either, top level experimental soviet technology. This would almost have certainly been destroyed with the fall of the USSR and the prototypes were destroyed by the allies anyway.

Tesla Coils - require rediculus amounts of power and are not overly practical weapons systems at the best of times. Again, much of the information on them was probubly destroyed by either the soviets or allies at the end of the war.

MAD tank - A suicide unit, top level soviet technology and only of limited effectiveness. Either destroyed or discarded at the end of the war.

Gap Generators - this is interesting. One can only guess that like the Chronosphere it was abandoned following the war for one reason or another. Power requirements, cost, etc...

Other points on the links between them - Read them here

Anyway, this offical mod appears to be what Renegade 2 was intended to be. I for one welcome it, but remain aprehensive as to how they will deal with RA2. Because that really screws some stuff up, particularly relating to the level of integration of Chrono technology.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Ever though of the fact that with a more competent, not so ignorant and less greedy publisher than EA, that DICE might have made a much more mod friendly, less rushed and buggy game without 10 trillion useless expansion packs?

edit-

I'll shut up about anything EA related to BF2 now.

It's just really really hard not to vent my frustration regarding the subject...

Wait what's this got to do with Project Reality? Nothing at all, which is why it's in the off topic.

Eh...I dunno Bob. One one hand, I will always love the Tib. series of games, and I know there are several links, but I had always accepted that they where two sep. universes that DID have parallels.

Been playing C&C3 Tiberium Wars : Kane Edition and it's just not that fun really when you aren't controlling your little men fps style. Plus the attrition count is awful as they move around in squads.

I guess some people love them and pc's don't have to be that expensive to be able to play them (an fps slowdown isn't going to hurt that type of game as much as an fps game!)

Well if CnC3 is your first Tiberium game, it's a poor excuse for one, but let's not get into that here.
