Question for game modelers
Out of curriosity, when you model something, how do you know it's the correct "size"? I've tried messing around in 3dsMax and stuff and I know (generally) how models are made, but if I make say, a new grenade for some game, how do I know it won't be imported the size of a pea, or larger than the player himself?

I think, when you drag a box, it gives you the values below on a toolbar at bottom.
Also depends on size of the grid, default is 10x10m |

The scale relative to the other parts is all done by the modeler, but the actual size in-game is determined by the person importing the weapon or vehicle.
Basically it becomes a game of scaling, exporting, seeing the result, tweaking, repeat, until its the right size. BF1942 used to have a scale option for models so that you could change their scale once they were already exported, but unfortunately thats no longer possible with BF2. Kind of a pain because if we still had that option then we could change sizes of stock BF2 vehicles to be more realistic. |
